Bought used a number of years ago at L&M in Winnipeg, Stafford Store. I have a number of guitars but at that point only 1 acoustic an ancient Yamaha that sounds amazing. Maybe because it's 44 years old? Anyway, I had been looking for ages for a new acoustic but none sounded as good as what I had. This was on the wall, a used model, I took it down, tuned it and one strum later I was blown away. Asked my guitar playing buddy what he thought and he, too, said it was awesome. I've had it now about 8 years and it keeps sounding better. Really, I can't imagine paying more for a guitar, seriously, how much better could it sound. It's a great guitar and sounds even better as it ages. One of my lucky kids will own it once I've shuffle off to the great Gig In The Sky.

Have only had for a month. Not too fancy but a great sounding guitar compared to other big names costing twice as much. Action was a little high but I restrung with light gauge ( compliments of L&M) as it came with mediums. Easier to play now as strings seat properly at the nut. They provide a free setup but don’t think I will require it. They also installed a strap button for me before I left the shop. Also comes with a nice Larrivee case. Very pleased with my purchase and very satisfied with the service/sales reps.

I'm not a pro - 3 years ago I sold my 1965 Yamaki 12 string because I felt I couldn't do it justice. The moment I heard it tuned and played by someone much more proficient - I didn't want to let go of it. But deals a deal. This of the twelve guitars I and my pro adviser tried had the closest to the tone of the Yamaki ... love its deep sweat mellow sound.Beautiful woods and workmanship are bonuses.

Am I ever glad I came upon this company and these guitars. Everything right down from wood sourcing to construction is quality above and beyond. Look jean larrivve up on YouTube and see what he has to say about his guitars and his legacy. None of their work is outsourced for profit. None of their quality is compromised. This can be incredible piece of mind for anyone buying an instrument these days, as wages and shortage of quality of tone wood can make for undesirable result, even in today's big reputable names. (My other choice was a Gibson.. which couldn't hold a candle to this instrument). On to the guitar itself. there seems to be 2 makes in this model. One favouring ebony and maple binding. The other featuring rosewood. Both are very nice but I decided on the rosewood. The African kaya is fine mahogany. Coupled with the Canadian Sitka spruce the sound is mighty. Quite comparable to guitars 3x it's price. If I had any complaint it would be minor and cosmetic. If I look at the top in a certain angle of light I can see a very slight glue residue near the bridge. Meh. The heel of the neck that meets the body took a little more sanding then it needed, has an ever so slight gap in one place. Meh. (Though they would prob replace the guitar on that flaw if wanted) but this guitar will have to be pried from my cold dead hands. The action and intonation are perfect. This guitar never loses tune. Thank you larrivee.

I've owned a Larrivee D-02 for about 10 years, and just bought another one for a family member as a gift. We were checking out a variety of lower priced Martins, solid top Epiphones (such as the Jumbo), and solid top Taylors. They were all OK, and came with a variety of electronics (including one with stereo output!) that seemed to make the package more attractive. But the unplugged sound -- which is the foundation of any guitar -- was generally thin and unsatisfying. I was just about to buy one of these at around $950 and by chance picked up the same model of Larrivee that I had owned for a decade. The difference was astonishing with warm balanced and full sound. And, as I know from my 10 year old D-02 (my first guitar) the sound will only blossom from there. The only reason I score 8 on features is that there are no bells and whistles (pickup, tuner etc) but that is really the point: this guitar has the one feature that can't be changed: great sound that I have not heard in other brands until you spend about $2500 or more. Pickups (check out the K & K Sound Pure Mini, recommended to me by a guitar builder years ago) and everything else can be added later.

Like another poster, I went into the guitar shop unfamiliar with the brand but was amazed by the sound (and price!) of this thing. I found it boomy, but articulate and well-balanced. And it looks flawless. I bought it and have been playing it for almost a month and am in love. Buy a Larrive!

This guitar has the most articulate voice that I've heard in a guitar under 2000. It completely dominates the competition, I strongly recommend this one for everyone.

I went into L&M with a budget in mind of about $2,000ish. Larrivee wasn’t even really on my radar, but after playing all the usual suspects (Martin, Taylor, Gibson, etc.) and being pretty disappointed, I started running through the few Larrivees they had in stock. I’m blown away this is a sub-$1,000 guitar. Sound wise, it can hang with guitars twice its price easily. It has a very even and well balanced tone that I know will just get better with age. But what really sold me was the workmanship. It’s nearly flawless and completely unexpected for a guitar in this price bracket. I believe they discontinued this model, but if you can find one still hanging around I would highly encourage you to check one out.

In my previous review i mentioned the frets being sharp but after playing for a few months i realized it was my soft fingers, as for the action L&M will set-up the guitar for free you just have to ask them.I do plan on buying another Larrivee either a parlor or an OM-3r from Long/Mcquade cause they are great people to deal with(Cape Breton )store. Larrivee's quality is better than Martin I compared 2 d16's to 2 larrivee D-03's both rosewood and mahogany models the Martins were not in the same category as Larrivee.Everthing on the Larrivee is solid wood even the binding is Maple. Martin uses richlite/macarta fretboards /Bridges Larrivee uses Ebony on all models. A Larrivee D-02 $939.00 +TAX is better than a D16gt $1075.00 +tax Larrivee's are handmade in USA & Canada and are some of the best built instruments in the world. PS i intended to buy a Martin D16gt but after playing the Larrivee D-02 my mind was changed.

Having now owned the D-02 for 6 months, I have to say it's already improving with age (lots of playing time). While trying the various models in-store, the D-02 stood out with the first strum ... rich and warm! My wife immediately turned around and said, That's it!" Good ear. I don't perform or jam, and just wanted a decent quality guitar for "home therapy". The deep tones also allow for high capo placement (5th-7th fret) for a mandolin-type sound without a spikey tone. It will also boom out lots of sound when asked, while delivering exceptional detail when picking within chords. Paired with a set of Elixir NanoWeb .012-.053 strings, and this instrument really sings. IMHO, the Larrivee D-02 is the most beautiful sounding instrument under $1000 on the market. I should also add that the service @ L&M was exceptional, and the Lrrivee's come with a very high quality custom case also ... great value!

I went to L&M to buy a Martin D16gt($1208) but the fretboard isn't wood i tried 2 epiphone masterbilts guitars dr500m($632 no case)spruce/mahogany & dr500r spruce/rosewood($886 no case) great guitars all solid wood but China made then i plan on getting a epiphone AJ500R($750 NO CASE BUT A AWESOME SPRUCE/ROSEWOOD guitar.i tried a Larrivee D-02 it blew me away all solidwood handmade in canada with a larrivee deluxe case for $879.00($1010 w/tax) the same specs as D-03 except the 02 has a 3piece neck the 03 has a 1 piece.I played both no difference but price the d-03 cost same as martin d16gt.Larrivee are the best guitar under $2000.The cons for the d-02 is the frets are a little sharp and the action could be lower but both can be fixed for under $100

I purchased my D02 as a replacement after an unhappy warranty experience I had with a Simon and Patrick (Godin) guitar. My salesperson, Bill, at the Saint John, NB store was awesome to deal with. It was based on his advice that I tried the Larrivee and after an hour of playing several of the higher end acoustic guitars in the shop, I was sold. For the money, the sound matched or beat all other guitars in the $1200 to $2000 price range - and this one included an excellent case! After several weeks at home now I couldn't be happier. Basic guitar with plain good looks, excellent workmanship, awesome rich sound - that's all I can say! Thanks Bill!

I just got hold of a d-02 and for the price it should be considered a steal. I've played it beside my adamas elite 1537 and the Larrivee sounds much fuller and has a deeper bottom than th ovation. the action is a little high but completely playable.

This guitar is bar non, the best sounding guitar. I played all the higher end Larrivee's and non of them played the mellow tone of this model. I have tried Gibsons and all guitars over $2000, this guitar comes close, or even beats most of them. The action could be a little bit lower but this is just to prevent the strings from buzzing as it has 0 buzz even when tuned 2 full steps down!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
