The Apex381 is a low impedance, dynamic microphone with exceptionally high sensitivity and linear response. It features a high energy, rare-earth neodymium magnet, double dome-diaphragm and an aluminum alloy voice coil designed to provide incredibly high output. Its tight cardioid pattern maximizes gain before feedback for outstanding live performance.

An internal double shockmount system significantly reduces handling & extraneous noise while a unique filter minimizes breath noise and popping caused by some consonants. The extremely rugged, heat-treated metal grille is highly shock resistant for better element protection and performance and comes with XLR to XLR mic cable and mic stand clip. New "leather-feel" finish makes for more positive grip during enthusiastic live performances.

This is basically a Shure Sm58 for less money. In fact, some could say that it sounds better, due to having more presence for vocals. May not be good for recording guitar, but that's not my expertise. Does however need a lot of gain on your preamp. I almost have my interface's gain cranked to get a loud enough signal. Any more and it'll start having feedback.

I use this microphone for voice recordings. I connected it to an Alesis Multimix4. I record with a AVID ProTools. To reach an acceptable level, I had to adjust gain on this mic is 80%, and volume is at 80% as well. That is pretty high. And for a directional mic, it picks up a lot of noise behind me, and in the other room! To get good volume and resonance, I have to be 2 inches away from the mic. It is a good mic for beginners. If you have a little bit of money to spare, get a more expensive mic.

Just bought this mic at L&M for 99$ and comes with a 25ft XLR cable!!!! You won't believe me when I tell that this mic out performs my SM58. I set up my PA, used the same input, same levels, same cable and just switched the mic's out to compare....the Apex wins.....however, it could be my 58 is about 5yrs old but hey......bang for your buck.... buy this mic. You won't be disappointed!

Like all Apex products, this is an excellent alternative to the big brands, at nearly half the price. Very good quality. I challenge anyone to find a difference in the sound between this mic and the SM-58!

I have a Behringer Wireless Dual ULM202USB microphone which picks up a lot of feedback from the speakers and causes distortion plus didn't give the promised 30 hours of battery life. So I bought this Apex 381 mainly because the Shure58 brand new was too expensive (like $150 + $25 with a XLR cable). L&M Mississauga gave me a good deal on a used Apex 381 (for $40 with a free XLR cable and microphone clip too). Just too bad that they did not have a used SM58. Apex 381 provides so-so performance . Thankfully no feedback but have to literally put your lips to the microphone.to even be heard. You won't even be heard even at a one inch distance. It only delivers limited vocal power. I was a bit disappointed. For my money I would buy a SM58 but the wireless type. I've used the SM58 wireless at my karaoke group and it is an awesome microphone. The downside is that the SM58 wireless microphone starts at $700 + including tax.........Ouch

I purchased two of these to add to my karaoke setup. I must say that using these Apex 381's alongside the Shure SM58's I cannot hear much of a difference (even if most reviews seem to favour the SM58). Certainly a great little mic for a karaoke setup, and for a good price.

I got this mic brand new from L&M. The customer service was exceptional. This was the best cheapest mic at their store. Forget about Recording Narration with this mic. If you want to use it for small family gatherings, then this product is for you. If you host bigger parties, then I suggest spend a little more and get a better mic.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
