J-35
Introduced in 1936, the J-35 was Gibson's answer to a call for a quality, handcrafted guitar with unrivaled tone and an incredible price. The 2013 J-35 is the modern equivalent of that original round-shoulder flat-top with Gibson's historically celebrated, full-bodied acoustic tone. Reborn for the same reasons that brought the original to the market, the J-35 is handcrafted with solid tone woods and all the acclaimed skill of Gibson Acoustics luthiers of Bozeman, Montana. The spruce top and mahogany back and sides produce the warm, expressive tone sought after by renowned artists, acoustic connoisseurs, record producers and sound engineers. The short-scale neck with dovetail neck-to-body joint, attached with traditional hot hide glue, provides for smooth tonal response and easy playing. An Antique Natural finish hand-sprayed with Gibson's signature nitrocellulose lacquer preserves the natural grain and lends a clean, modern look, while enhancing the guitars resonance. A unique fire stripe pick guard, multi-ply top binding and soundhole rosette, and a Gibson script and banner logo make it easy to distinguish the J-35 in the family of round-shoulder dreadnoughts. Equipped with a Baggs Element pickup, the J-35 is a go-to favorite for vocal accompaniment on stage or in the studio.

I've been playing my J-35 for well over 2 years now and thought it was time to do a follow-up review. It is a quality instrument and I still love it! I still play it daily. I've settled on D'Addario EXP16 coated 12-53 for my sound (dump the 11's it comes with when you pick it up). I loved the sound of this guitar when I bought it and as the spruce top opens up, I love it even more. This guitar is a tone-monster with volume to boot when you need it but still has the dynamic range to be played softly as well. I play everything from Irish and folk to classic and alternative rock on this and it always sounds great. I also love how the neck feels and find this guitar to be wonderfully comfortable to play. I've knocked the value down a notch from 2 years ago because I think Gibson is gouging a bit. 2+ years ago, I paid $1500. Now it's $1850 and the 201 models are going to be $2250. All things considered. I would buy this guitar again. Great job, Gibson on this guitar.

bought the guitar at a store in Hamilton, have owned it for a while now and must say I am quite surprised how good it sounds. It has a loud woody sound that you cannot even get out a boutique guitar very easily. Excellent light construction and super short scale neck. this one is a keeper for sure. Don't like some of the plastic parts on it like the saddle and tuning pegs but that in no way interferes with he nice sound. This guitar is an excellent fingerpicker as well

I've lived with and strummed my J 200 for many years so the new J 35 has tough competition in my household. Light to hold, beautiful to look at & feel; we actually traded our higher priced (Songwriter Deluxe) acoustic for the J 35 as it's sound & playability are better, in our opinion. When I put it up against our new Seagull Mini Jumbo, the latter priced under $900., the almost $2000. J 35 price tag is high, thus I dispute the 'great value' statements I have read in other reviews, etc. The sound is very good, but not outstanding.

My first Gibson ever and what a good choice. Overall a very nice guitar solid and very light sounds absolutely great. Don't like the plastic parts like bridge pins and needs a set up because the strings are high but a nice instrument

this guitar replaces an older, 1968 Gibson Blueridge. It is easily the best model in this price range, I chose it over a Songwriter, the Mahogany tone is perfect at midrange and balanced.

Action was high at first, but after it was was adjusted, what a sweet guitar. Plays great and sounds rich and full. The LR Baggs Element pick up is a perfect match. A great acoustic guitar. Kudos to Gibson. Highly recommended.

Have been playing my new Gibson J35 several weeks now and am very impressed. Having been picking for 40 years and a ton of guitars, this instrument is amazing. The quality, sound and overally workmanship is simply outstanding.. Because of the price, it allowed me to buy a truly exceptional instrument. It sounds better every day as it starts to lossen up! Buy one before the price increases and you will be impressed!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
