I've had this bass for about 3 and half years and it is my main bass (I also have an Ibanez SR755). This was also my first 5 string and it was extremely easy to get used to. It has a very thin neck which makes playing fast and technical riffs a breeze (playing in death metal bands, this is key). I like a very low action as i tap a lot, and there's never any fret buzz. Very light-weight so you can play for hours, either live or while practicing without aches/back or shoulder pain. Great for recording as well, not much tweaking to do. I would recommend this bass for anyone from beginners to pros. Extremely versatile and simple. The only downfall is the finish scratches very easily. I have 3 huge chunks missing from the front because of my nails hitting the body as I play, but that's nothing, I find it only gives it more character. Extremely happy with this bass!

Got mine, this past January, and I was hesitant to get it, as it's my first 5-string. Man, am I glad I picked it up. The tone is awesome, and the overall feel of the guitar is just really comfortable. It's light, but not too light and the body design makes for great playability. I've always played Ibanez, and I wouldn't stop, for anything.

I know tone is the main thing people care about, and this bass delivers....but...There are other things you should consider. I rented one for a month before I bought it and I'm glad I did. After tax this thing costs almost 800$. For me, that is a big investment. The biggest problem is there is no protective finish on the wood. It dents and scratches incredibly easy. Your fingernails alone can dent and scratch the surface. It looks pretty when new, but over time if will look rough. The rental already had some deep indents and in some places the "stain" was removed showing a much lighter wood underneath. Secondly the fret wires were not filed at all. I own a Squier VM Jazz bass which is by all account a cheap bass and it's "fit and finish" were much better. Like I said the tone on this thing is incredible, but the rough/sharp fret wires, and easily damageable materials make this a bass I was not willing to part with 800$ for.

I've had this bass for 6 months and have really enjoyed playing fretless again. Electronics are very good for the money. Playability and tonal options are excellent. Recommended.

Fantastic bass. Played it for about 20 minutes before taking it home. Feels like an instrument several times its monetary superior.

I have been a long time fan of Ibanez guitars and have played them since the late 70's, and have always gotten a great deal of quality for the money. This bass is no exception. The neck is sleek and fast, the body is light, the active electronics give near endless tone options, and the instrument is solidly built. I was really debating whether the fifth string would really be of any use, but as it turns out the low 'B' gives a good and full deep bottom end with almost no 'rumble', definitely a nice option to have. Though not the cheapest bass on the market, it is a remarkably good value for the options you get, (everything from full, dull lows with minimal resonance to crisp, sharp highs which are great for the 'slap and pop'. An excellent bass for all styles of music, and with a action that can be set extremely low which works nice for any 'tapping' style. Also saves a lot of time in the studio being able to set a great tone right from the guitar without smothering it in effects. I highly recommend.

I have had this bass now for almost a year. Starting to show a little wear but I play it lots. Great neck! I don't have huge fingers so the spacing and radius are perfect. My only complaint with it is if you record with it you may have to tweak a few things as the A and D just don't seem to carry as good as the others. Great bass for live playing and jamming. For the price you can't touch it. I am looking at the Sr5005e to replace it. The low end growl is amazing for a bass in this price range.

I recently moved from a 4 String Schecter (Precision copy). In my opinion The SR500 series is the minimum you can go for studio capable electronics in a pro-level bass. This bass does it all with ease. The neck is fantastic and the playing ergonomics can't be beat due to position and weight, and I can play this one much longer because of it. The tone pots are centre-notched so you can tell where they are by feel. It came perfectly set up out of the box. A few finish glitches if you are picky and look close, but in reality the only thing more expensive models offer over this one is fancy paint and gilded metal. No trouble transitioning to playing 5 strings, don't know if it's the 505 or just me.

Quality goes up when you are willing to spend more. Having only played a couple years, I was hesitant to spend a lot of money. It was well worth it. Still not a boutique item by any means, but the quality is very good. A couple nicks and blemishes in the woodwork, but sounds great. The picture isn't completely accurate as the bass also has a 200hz/650hz mid boost/cut toggle switch.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
