Blues King
The Gibson Blues King merges the better of two worldstraditional small body, L-series design from the early 1900s, combined with a slightly shallower body depth and several new Gibson Modern Classic features to meet todays uncompromising standards. Gibsons L-series flat-tops have long been a favorite among blues and roots guitarists, and the new Blues King ensures the inspiration of a new generation of artists.

Nickel Grover Mini Rotomatic Tuners
Grovers original Rotomatic tuners are an engineering marvel, with abundant style and performance exactly suited for the Blues King. With a gear ratio of 14:1, the Rotomatics deliver precision tuning in a durable housing that provides maximum protection for the gear and string post. All moving parts are cut for exact meshing, eliminating the possibility of slippage. A countersunk tension screw lets players regulate the tuning tension to any degree. A special lubricant inside the gear box provides smooth and accurate tuning stability.

Pickguard
The tortoise pickguard on the Blues King is the same style as featured on the L-00s of the early 1900s. As with all Gibsons pickguards, the coloring, inlay, binding, and engraving are all done by hand.

Rosette
A rosette is the beautiful, hand-crafted circle around the soundhole, and can be one of the most ornamental elements of any acoustic guitar. It is also one of the most subtle and complicated woodworking decorations on any acoustic guitar. The rosette on the Blues King is a single-ring rosette consisting of three-ply binding, adding a stylish, understated elegance to the Blues King.

Rosewood Fingerboard with Rolled Edges and Dot Inlays
The fingerboard of Gibsons Blues King is constructed from the highest grade rosewood on earth, which is personally inspected and qualified by Gibsons team of skilled experts before it enters the Gibson factories. The resilience of this durable wood makes the fingerboard extremely balanced and stable, and gives each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite. The Blues Kings dot inlays are made of genuine mother of pearl, and are inserted into the fingerboard using a process that eliminates gaps and doesnt require the use of fillers. The fingerboard also sports a rolled edgeinstead of the usual right angle where the fingerboard surface meets the neck, Gibson Acoustics rolled edges are slightly beveled for an extremely smooth and comfortable feel, enhancing the playability of the Blues King.

Body Tonewoods (back, sides and top)
The Blues King is based on the body design of Gibsons legendary L-00 small body. The top is made from Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are constructed from African bubinga, giving the Blues King a warm, woody midrange, with the evenly balanced tone and sound of a guitar many times its size. Selecting the right wood, and the formula to dry it out, are two of the most central procedures to Gibsons guitar-building process. Beginning with its first catalog in 1903, Gibson has assured its customers that every guitar would be built using woods with the most durable, elastic, and sonorous qualities, and todays guitars from Gibson Acoustic are no different.

L.R. Baggs Element Active Acoustic Pickup System
Gibson Acoustics Blues King comes equipped with the popular Element Active Acoustic Pickup System from L.R. Baggs, which features a low-profile undersaddle elementor transducerthats proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Combined with an onboard preamp with an unobtrusive and removable volume control mounted just inside the soundhole, the Element delivers performance not previously attainable from an undersaddle pickup. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar, and improve the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. The Element works with a standard 9V battery, which is housed inside the guitar in L.R. Baggs new Battery Bagg.

Bracing
Every acoustic guitar made by Gibson features hand-scalloped, radiused top bracing inside the body, a feature normally found only in limited run, hand-made guitars. By scalloping each brace by hand, the natural sound of the acoustic is focused more toward the center of the body, enhancing the instruments sound projection. The bracing inside the Blues King is constructed using the same pattern and placement of braces as those found in Gibsons celebrated L-00 acoustic guitar of the 1920s and 1930s. This bracing pattern delivers a tight, bassy tone, with warm, woody midrange and evenly balanced tone across all six strings, making it more than capable to meet todays uncompromising standards among blues and roots guitar players.

Individual notes are incredibly responsive with an unreal depth of sound for a small bodied guitar. I tried several full sized Gibsons, but for comfort of playing and overall sound and playability, this was it for me. This guitar has spawned new life in my guitar playing.

I played a 1935 L00 awhile back. I fell in love with with the sound and feel. I looked for quite a while and I found this Blues King in Calgary. It has brought new life to my playing. The person who owns the 1935 L 00 has played mine and says I found a gooder. There have been others play it and they are impressed. They are not all the same you have to play them. Thanks Long and McQuade.

My shoulder was aching from playing my Martin Dreadnought finger picking blues style. The Blues King size and shape solved the problem. The tone really does becomes fuller and richer with time. The nitro finish is superb. Workmanship and materials and pickups, fantastic. My only complaint is the low E string buzzes and clicks at the 7th fret. I've had it set up but the problem didn't go away. When I did send it away for setup, I lost my guitar for 3 weeks! I'm may try heavier strings (bummer) and a bridge shim. Oh, the gig bag... really?? $2300 for a guitar and you give me a bag? Regardless, I'll never give it up. I might spring for a Martin 000-28 though for the brighter Martin tone, but I'll keep the Gibson for the Blues.

I mostly play electric these days, so I wanted a small body high quality acoustic guitar. I tried out a few martins, taylors and some gibson. I instantly liked this one. I think it's a good choice of acoustic for a person who mostly plays electric. I love it! The build quality is outstanding, and the sound is even better. I love the neck... so easy to do slides and it's just comfortable. I'll never sell it...

Love this guitar. Excellent for the blues but can be used for any acoustic music. The pickup feature makes the guitar really sing. Changed strings to custom slightly lighter gauge similar to Robert Johnson this is a little better for blues picking.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
