When I first got into guitar pedals, I couldn't decide what my first pedal should be (after my TC Electronic Ditto Looper). I scoured the internet, watching hundreds of demo videos, but I just couldn't make a decision - I wanted them all. Then I stumbled upon a review of the Line 6 M5 and I was intrigued. I went into my local L&M and tried it out, and I was hooked! There's literally over 100 different effects in one stompbox, and a built in tuner too! Most of the effects are modeled after best selling classic pedals so playing the M5 was like a crash course on pedals. Only a few cons: - The screen is tiny and sometimes the black font is hard to see on the blue and purple background lighting, - and unfortunately you can only use one effect at a time. If you want to layer effects you need to upgrade to the M9, which lets you use 3 effects at once. But if you're a beginner guitarist who wants to play around with various effects at home while practicing without breaking the bank, you can't go wrong buying this!

I've been looking for a decent multi-effects unit for well over a year. I've tested literally all of them. Recently purchased and returned a zoom g3 (POS) for this unit. I've always been skeptical of Line 6 products and was hesitant to purchase because I was worried that the effects wouldn't be of professional caliber. My set-up has a number of analogue and digital single stompboxes running to a Blackstar HT Club 40 (Tube). I own a Gibson Les Paul Traditional and a Manson MB-1 guitar (custom, no midi screen). The tone from all effects from the m5 far exceeded my expectations. The distortion/gain/fuzz effects were as good as my Blackstar, Keeley son of fuzz head and Z vex fuzz factory. Small footprint and really rounds out any pedalboard nicely. I've been playing for over 20 years and as a Muse/ alternative rock fan, I'm very selective about my tones, especially distortion/gain/fuzz. All of the effects, including the distortion/gain/fuzz were amazing. Could easily be incorporated for live use. This pedal may be small and have a few less features (e.g., looper, expression pedal) than other multi-effects pedals, but the tones FAR EXCEED any other unit I've tried. I recommend at the very least testing it out to set the bar for any other multi effects unit (or even individual stompbox). One drawback is that you can only use one effect at a time. However, each effect is accompanied by a noisegate, which works extremely well. If you prefer to use more effects from this unit at a time, I say go for the Line 6 m9 or m13. Same units, but can play 3 and 4 stompboxes at the same time, respectively. Very very happy with this product and will likely upgrade to the m9 in the near future.

This is the perfect starter / practice pedal. More than a hundred effects to play with and a superb build quality add up to a toy that motivates me to practice. Great value at only $150

I picked up one of these pedals to fill a variety of modulation needs on my pedal board without taking up a pile of space for 2 or 3 different effects pedals. It does a great job with the flange and phasing (my main reason to buy) and the reverbs are pretty darn good as well. There are some other effects 'toys' in there as well that might find one-off applications too. I won't say the drive/distortion effects are perfect but they are acceptable at the very least giving the user a taste of vintage pedals without the high price tag of getting the real McCoy. It should be noted (and Line 6 is pretty clear on this in their literature) that this isn't a multiFX pedal, you can't layer the effects on the pedal itself BUT it is pretty adept at becoming one effect or another at the touch of a few buttons. Think of it as a pedal that can be a Drive OR a Flange OR a Phase etc. My only complaint, and it is fairly insubstantial, is the two button tap to get into the effect change menu... a third dedicated button would have been nice for this. I gather there are third party mods available to add this convenience. This is far from a deal breaker! Line 6- I have not always cared for your approach to pedal design and even the modelling itself. I must admit, great build here and I'm loving this product.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
