Very chunky feeling guitar, not cheap at all. Sounds great with a nice "SG" bite and growl. Very good bang for the buck. Plays as nice as a standard.

another awesome guitar, a really good place to start on the gibson scene. has all the sound quality you'd want from a gibson, nice and light weight. amazing resonation from the all mahogany body. if you have abit more cash handy i would upgrade to the standard.

well according to the other reviews GIbson may have gotten on the ball on this one since 05 but my SG special Faded was a nightmare. I seen it on ebay and was attracted to the price, did some reading and found out the idea was to make a bare bones version of the SGs before Nitrocellulose laquer. no binding or fancified headstock diamonds to be found but all the same great feel and sound. man was i surprized. after getting it it looked beautiful and natural with its worn brown, and then i plugged it in.... I guess i cant be too harsh on the sound, its got an awesome clean its just hard to get the Bawls out on it. apparently they have matching pickups on the guitar instead of a slightly stronger pickup in the bridge so they basically stuck in 2 neck pickups (490R and 490T instead of a 498T which the standards had since strings ) the Neck is just a nightmare, thick and baseball batty, feels similar to playing lead on an acoustic, and a minefield of frets that overhang the edges of the fingerboard. so i guess overall its not a bad guitar if you A. get someone to file back the fret edges B. adjust the neck and shave some off the back of the neck and get used to playing with .008s C. get someone to totally reset up the guitar D.swap the bridge pickup or get a beefier tube amp, but yeah Id find it easier just to buy a guitar thats built properly in the first place. my only regret is that i bought it through ebay instead of a music store/private sale where i could try it out before buying it, but for a beginner trying to toughen thier fingers up or someone who only sticks to the top of the neck with no bends or likes a nice clean tone its pretty decent,Ill be sticking to my Gibson Les paul Special double cuttaway and partially swapping the SG Special faded for a Marshall JVM or a Fender standard ash (SiennaSunburst) strat (not to get into a fender vs Gibson debate here I happen to like both) the upside is its still in mint shape pending a string change since i havent played it all that much

This guitar is absolutely incredible. It's all the warm, supported tone you'd expect from a Gibson, but achieves a huge range of tones ranging from metal to the smoothest jazz. An absolutely outstanding guitar.
