Every mode on this pedal is usable and sounds fantastic. Beware though, this is a powerful, highly tweakable unit, and as such it is possible to dial in a terrible sound. Also I would not use this in front of an amp, I use it only direct to board either for recording or playing live. But you really can dial in a variety of amp sounds based off the Mesa Boogie, Marshall, and Fender circuitry. Its a pretty quiet unit too, no noticeable hum coming through. One thing though, I had to buy and EQ pedal to run right after it, because it gives a very "thumpy" low bass response when you crank the low knob, which sounds good but often overly bassy. So shelve off below 125 Hz or so and you are golden. This really does feel like a tube amp too, it beats the pants off every single digital modeller I've ever played. You will have to spend some time tweaking to get the sound you are after but its well worth your time. To summarize: Great for recording Tons of sounds in this thing, from clean to blistering boogie tones. Low noise. Very authentic feel, real tube-like analogue response. Organic, transparent sound. - You can actually tell when you switch guitars, the The pedal responds wonderfully to different pick-ups and instruments. Also great for practising, plug in your headphones and you are good to go. I would recommend this to every guitar player I know.
