If you need a cheap strat, this is the go-to 'real' inexpensive axe. I love strats but have no money, Hendrix freak so crappy strats just shrivel my bag. this one comes set up beautifully and competently (get rid of the thin strings obviously). A little over 400 bucks with tax and you get some real nice 'tonerider' type Alnico 5's, a gorgeuos tinted neck that plays like butter with right-on frets and very good vintage tuners, a nicer-seeming bridge than I got on my tinny sounding MIM strat, a flawless fit and finish factor, including a properly done nut and a virgin-tight neck-pocket fit. The pickgaurd is a disgrace, however, you get a sort of printed reproduction of tortoise-shell, and even that looks fuzzy and stupid because it was printed out of register, gawd! I put a fender Bronze Moto pickguard on mine and it makes me giddy. Soundwise? Pretty damn good - I've been playing and tweaking my sound through various good pedals and a little Blackstar 1-watt, and this guitar has some quality and depth to the sound. and does all the stratty, quacky, pickup combinations excellently and effectively, and I've found that the pickups have tremendous capability to produce some bouncy biting tones as well as the warmer, rounder stuff very effectively if you have decent gear. Took a good look while i changed 'guards and the wiring is spot-on and neat, the pickups exude that, 'comfy quality' feel when you handle them (don't look under the hood on a MIM standard strat, which is a good $150 more, the pickup construction will sadden you.). The hardware all looks, feels and functions right-on, good electronics, blah blah blah, but all this PLUS the way she plays and feels make this the 'under $500 strat' to audition before you buy anything else at this price point.

I had already bought a CV 50s about 4mos ago, and so was so impressed with it, and play it so much, i went out and bought the Classic Vibe 60s ! Fantastic workmanship on all that i have tried, and the neck plays just fabulous. This is now my favorite guitar to play among 5, and with the CV 60s, i love the pups as they are a bit hotter than the 50s. No disappointments with the Classic Vibe line, get one before Fender starts raising the price !

I compared this to a few MIM strats and found this guitar was their equal. L&M can bring in the red version of this guitar - much nicer IMHO!

When I bought this I played it for about half hour and then played a Made in Mexico and I honestly thought the Squier was a much better guitar and bought it that day. Have since swapped out the original pickups for Texas Specials and this thing is now amazing. What a sleeper!!!

Just a little tip. If you want to keep the nut on the 1/4" jack tight, tighten up the nut then brush a small drop of nail polish where the nut and the thread contact.

This simply is a great guitar. The 5-way switch provides so many tonal options, it looks great and feels nice and light. It can also take a beating. The only thing that is a little frustrating is having to tighten the 1/4 inch outlet every other time i want to play.
