| For a guitar costing close to $400 after taxes, you would expect it to at least have a solid top... but unfortunately that isn't the case. However, the fit and finish is superb. The guitar has a bit of weight to it compared to other guitars.. which I like. It feels sturdy in construction and not cheap. The gloss finish is nice too, though if I had my preference, I`d rather have a satin finish.
Playability is good. The action is not too high and the guitar is fairly easy to play. I do however get some ocassional buzzing here and there... I'm hoping the guitar will stop buzzing once I get it professionally 'set-up' by a guitar tech.
My biggest complaint with this Takamine is sound quality. I feel it is faint sounding. Especially when playing songs which require a lot of finger-picking. Though when strumming with a pick, it sounds okay... but you really need to play hard to get the sound to eminate. When plugged into an amp the guitar sounds good.
Would I recommend this guitar to anyone... probably not. If you`re going to spend close to $400, I would advise that you take some time to save a bit more and buy a solid-top Simon&Patrick or a solid-top Seagull. I played these guitars at the store, and loved the sound. I regret not buying any of those two brands instead. Only reason why I didn`t buy a Simon&Patrick or Seagull is because they didn`t have an acoustic-electric one in-store since I wanted something to amp up... and more importantly they were out of my price limit of $400.
In a year I`ll probably sell this Takamine on Kijiji and upgrade to something else. Posted by Guitar Hobbyist of 10+ years on Mar 9, 2012 | |||
