| Hi, I bought this amp from L&M recently for use with an upright bass I recently aquired. It is a Kay swingmaster with an underwood pickup. I am playing rockabilly, 50's rock n' roll and blues with this bass, so I needed a good little portable bass amp that would give me a good solid "thump" tone, with good volume and loudness, without costing me an arm and a leg, and not breaking my back carrying it to practices, gigs etc. This little amp kicks serious a$$! It's only 200 watts, but it's loud as hell, sounds solid, and with the "scoop" feature, I can dial in a great solid low bass tone that works great with the upright. It also has a "tweeter defeat" switch on the back that allows you to turn off the "horn" or tweeter speaker. This is great if you really want that vintage speaker-only tone with mostly lows and mids. It was only $650 which is a great price considering most bass amps are around $300 - $400 for only up to 100 watts and the next step up is usually 300 or 400 watts for over a grand. This is a good mid price (low in my opinion) light, portable but powerful little amp. I like that you can get it in two versions too. The Dynabass 200 (single speaker) or the 200T (2x 10" speakers). I went for the 200T for more punch and more color, tones in the mids to push the slap bass I will be playing. But make no mistake, it'll totally provide your lows just as well as the single speaker version. Is it loud? I had it on 1/4 to 1/2 volume in the store and it was rattling everything around us, and if I play it at home like that, we'll get evicted! Haha! It's got plenty of volume for a rehearsal or mid size (at least) gig. It also has an XLR output with pre or post eq out to the board. Most places now have a sound guy, pa you can run your bass through so a large gig should be no problem to do with this amp, with these features. All in all I would say this was the BEST deal at the store and you can't go wrong with picking one up. Plus, two year warranty. Pretty good. Try one out, you won't be dissapointed! Plus if it's not big enough for you, they have 300 and 400 watt versions avail as well!! Cheers! Posted by Johnny on Aug 28, 2010 | |||
