This is a very nice sounding snare. I got it in the Diamond Glitter wrap. Awesome looking under stage lights. The quality of the shells, bearing edges and hardware is of high quality. The excellent die cast hoops make for very easy tuning and I don't need to use any dampening at all. I tune it just above med tension and I love the warm but responsive sound. Cross sticking and rimshots are clear and powerful because of the hoops. The snare throwoff is a basic design but it's smooth and quiet for live work. For gigs of the country/rock variety,I use this snare. I'm never disappointed with Pearl quality workmanship and I'm glad to have added this with my other snares. For jazz gigs, I have Pearl Master Premium 14 x 5.5 snare, made of 4 ply mahogany shells with 4 ply maple reinforcement rings. When I play mostly blues or rock, I use my Pearl Sensitone Elite Brass snare 14 x 6.5. Having three snares is great because I can play without having to compromise the sound - it always fits the music. And really, isn't that what it's all about? PEARL ROCKS!!!
