Recording Basics with Terry Tran

This class is designed for newcomers to home recording and budding engineers. If you have, or ever wanted, a home studio, then this clinic is a must. Learn how to track and mix with software. Learn the differences between mics and micing techniques. There will also be a focus on setting up your home studio, including room treatment. Terry is an Edmonton-based producer and recording engineer who has worked with Theresa Sokyrka, Social Code, Shout Out Out Out Out and more. He is currently managing partner of the Audio Department (www.theaudiodepartment.ca), a recording studio and pro audio rental company specializing in vintage/boutique recording equipment.

Devine is a music business impresario who has spent 30 years working with a wide range of independent musicians and professional level artists from around the world. Starting as a professional musician and evolving into an artist manager, Devine has worked with Grammy winning stars such as Muddy Waters, 69 boyz, Original P Funk, Donald Ray Johnson and producer Steve Thompson. He is known throughout North America as a music business maven who has assisted many artists in developing lucrative careers in the industry.

Live Sound Clinic and Mini-Concert with Graham Caddel and Garage Mahal

Graham will show you step by step how to set up sound for a band, with a discussion on mic techniques, signal flow, ringing out monitors and more – followed by a live show with local rockers Garage Mahal! Graham is a well-known sound technician who currently runs the rig at On the Rocks, and is a Professor of Music Technology and Live Sound at Grant MacEwan University.

Remo Tune-Up Day with Greg Williamson and Chad Melchert

Sponsored by Remo and Direct Music Supply. Drummers are invited to bring in a snare drum (or entire set if desired) and, with the purchase of a Remo drumhead, have it tuned and tweaked by a pro! Get some advice on drum maintenance and how to get that studio sound. Greg Williamson is a Canadian drummer, session musician and songwriter. He is best known for his work with Tupelo and has played with Econoline Crush, Mourning Wood, KINGDOOM, The Raygun Cowboys, The Rebel Emergency, Kae Sun, Jampara and the Battalion and Cops + Robbers. He currently endorses Yamaha Drums, Paiste Cymbals, Vater Sticks and Protechtor Cases. Chad is one of Canada’s most sought after live and session drummers, having toured the world with artists of all genres from folk to heavy rock. He is currently band-leading and drumming for 2013 CCMA Country Male Vocalist of the Year Gord Bamford. Chad is a Yamaha Drums endorsee.
