I am a self taught guitarist who has played for about a year and a half. I started on an entry level Yamaha and thought that I was sounding good with my big clumsy fingers. I had read a wealth of information about various guitars, and the S6 appeared to be the guitar. Handmade, Canadian, reputable company with green practices. Went into my local store and sat in the guitar room all alone and tried a variety of expensive guitars before picking up this unit. It felt like butter in my hands. The slightly wider neck, rich tones and beautiful construction made me smile from the very first chord. I have about 2 weeks in and have played every single night and have already noted my playing has improved substantially. Fingers move about the frets a lot easier (they still get tangled occasionally) and the tone is deep and rich and my repertoire has started to expand. Buy it without reservation. The folks at my local store continue to rock with service and friendliness.

I bought this guitar last month after visiting my local store to find a guitar that felt comfortable to me. I tried just about ever guitar in the room and found the Seagull brand to be the best fit for my hands. The sound is something I, as a relative beginner, found to be comparable to the Gibson and Martins. The neck is easy and I find I don"t fatigue as fast playing for longer times than I would with my other brand name guitars.

After being away from music for way too long i have returned and after research and some great advice i opted for the S6. Great sound, great value and made here in Canada, what more can i say? Played guitars that are twice if not three times the price and the S6 holds its own. I will not say that this is better than more pricey guitars but it certainly isnt the "poor cousin". Very happy with my choice and have a feeling that this is likely the start of a love affair.

My main guitar is a 25 year old Martin HD 28. I bought the Seagull, used and inexpensive, after one too many uncomfortable brushes with jackasses at house gatherings and bonfires asking to borrow my guitar. I had heard about the S6 being out of its own league in terms of the cost/sound ratio. I hated the pointy headstock, and the wide fretboard gave me pause, but I wanted to see what the hype was about. It wasn't hype. My HD 28 is arguably one of the most emulated guitars in form and sound, and after 25 years together, I have something of an ear for that standard. The Seagull brings something new and unique to the table, and gets played as much as my Martin. It is LOUD, if that is appealing, is resonant, has beautiful intonation, and feels balanced across the fretboard. This is a real guitar, and only a stepping stone if you find yourself with almost $4,000 and want a name on a headstock. This thing will duke with anything above its price range. The things I dislike about the Seagull are the rubber (barf) soundhole ring, the headstock shape, the plastic spacers in the tuners, and the name "Seagull," which is neither majestic nor logical. So, my complaints are aesthetic only. The wide fingerboard is a treat, and is worth buying just for that feature. Solid wood top, obvious craftsmanship, made in Quebec...just go to Google if you think you can do better in this price range. I dare you.

There's no special hardware on this model, but as a beater guitar, it does its job extremely well. A superb first guitar at a great price. The strings that come on them are ok, but I preferred the D'Addario strings that I have on my S6 now. Very nice warm tone.

After 30 years, I finally decided I was going to learn to play guitar. I hit the"we" to research "Best Guitars Under $800". Pages and pages of opinion, articles and advise exist. The one common thread...Seagull (Godin). Specifically the S6. Again I hit the "Search" button and could not find a single negative review of the S6 or any Seagull guitar. I made my way to the Sydney store and tried 6 different brands (Thanks Lyndon). I purchased a S6 Slim. Canadian Made, great value, with features and tone of guitars costing 2X the $$$. Do your own research. Then make your way to a L&M store. Try a Seagull against all the "big Brands" and hopefully you'll be singing - Oh Canada !

I'm new at playing guitar but I'm not a dead string . This guitar has the nicest, warmest sound for being an affordable guitar. No need to spend thousands of dollars for a nice sounding guitar, its right here. I'm sure it'll only get better as it ages, cedar top gives it a pleasant sound.

I've been playing for about 40 years and owned 8 guitars (6 acoustic). I find the S6 to be a really sweet instrument. The finish is subtle and the construction seems solid. What I really like is the string spacing and the tone. Fingerpicking is a dream on this neck, as lots of other reviewers have noticed. I think the spacing of the strings down the neck make the strings sound out. What I don't think anyone else has noted is the timing of hitting the strings on strums really strikes me as right -- just enough to sound each separately (not as "clumped" as a 1.65 inch nut, and not as "separate" as a 2 inch classical). The sustain is solid and the cedar top gives it a not-to-bright tone. My daughter loves to play it, too. Overall I am super happy with my S6 after a month. I might have to consider one of the maple guitars, too, maybe even with the built-in pickup.

If you are thinking of getting a Seagull, but have some reservations, just get it. These guitars are a great value, and well rounded tonally. Have the nut set up by a tech right away. Have the saddle done, once the guit settles in. I do not know anyone who has regretted buying a Seagull.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
