SG '60s Tribute
Gibson USA is celebrating 2013 as the Year of Les Paul, and is blowing it up big with a new series of decade-dedicated Tribute SGs, each of which honors the artistry and innovation of inventor and guitarist Les Paul by capturing the essence of a great SG guitar from one of four different eras. The SG body style was first released in 1961 as a replacement for the original Les Paul, and the new design remained iconic long after the single-cutaway Les Paul returned to the fold later in the decade. The SG 60s Tribute captures the look, feel, and tone of the legendary original SG Standards of 1960s. Like the first SG Standards, the SG 60s Tribute carries a pair of PAF-style humbucking pickups, the most revered pickup ever created, along with the fast and comfortable slim neck profile characteristic of the start of that decade. Gibsons most acclaimed hardware set ensures smooth playability and offers precise tuning and intonation. And, like all Les Paul and SG 2013 Tribute Series guitars, the Les Paul 60s Tribute is available upgraded with Min-ETune automated Robot tuners for a nominal upcharge. The SG 60s Tribute looks great in your choice of Heritage Cherry, Vintage Sunburst, or Ebony Black finish, all finished with Vintage Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.

Like the greatest SG Standards ever made, the SG 60s Tribute starts with a foundation of solid mahogany, a tonewood with a long tradition at Gibson. A solid mahogany body is crafted in the distinctive, thin asymmetrical dual-cutaway style, with iconic pointed horns and beveled edges to enhance playing comfort. A solid mahogany neck is glued into the body in Gibsons time-tested tradition, and carved to a fast, slim 60s profile that measures .800 at the 1st fret and .875 at the 12th. It is topped with a genuine rosewood fingerboard that carries 24 medium-jumbo frets to maximize this necks excellent fret access, and traditional trapezoid inlays. In keeping with the stripped-down ethos of this powerful performer, both body and board remain unbound, and theres no pickguard to obscure the finish. A PLEK-cut nut made from black Corian subtly complements the black speed knobs and black pickup rings. The traditional back-angled headstock is silkscreened with gold Gibson and holly logos.

The SG 60s Tribute takes its firepower from a pair of BurstBucker humbucking pickupsa BurstBucker 1 at the neck and a slightly hotter BurstBucker 2 at the bridge, both are some of the most accurate recreations of vintage PAF humbuckers available today. These great pickups adhere strictly to Seth Lovers original formula, which includes a genuine Alnico II bar magnet in each pickup and slightly mismatched coils wound with 42-AWG enamel-coated wire for the characteristic edge and bite that has made original PAFs legendary. The traditional wiring complement of an independent volume and tone control per pickup, plus a three-way toggle selector switch, allows a broad range of sonic variations. To anchor it all down, Gibson USA loads in a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece, with a set of genuine Grover kidney button tuners, a hardware set that partners up for solid sustain and precision tuning. Put it all together, and the SG 60s Tribute presents the perfect celebration of Les Pauls genius and achievement, wrapping it all into a great guitar that brings the look, feel, and sound of the original humbucker-loaded SGs to the hands of players of today.

I am a classically trained musician in Piano, Guitar among other instruments. I've tried everything, Fender Jags, Jazz, Tele, Strats, (Standard, US, and Custom), many Ibanez, Godin, PRS, the list goes on. Personal preference indeed but my favorite is Gibson, having that said I've tried SG, Les, ES 335, 339, Firebird, Flying V, Nighthawk, (Epi, Gibson, and Custom) and by far, my favorites are the SG. Maybe it's because I'm a classical player and like the big neck, but this axe is a must get. Budget-able price, awesome overdrive and gain capabilities, bendy strings, amazing clean tones; the included gig bag is ok but I am waiting for them to stock a SKB SG flight case for me. The fret inlay, the burstbuckers, the finish, amazing. I can't stop playing, it pairs nicely with my Fender Hotrod (120 W) and with the standard long and mcquade leather strap, it's as light (if not lighter) than an acoustic. In my opinion better than the SG Standard, and I also must mention, it came from the factory, made about a week ago, in the box, (I ordered it) first one to open and try it and it was in PERFECT TUNE! I'm amazed and happy with this. I gave 9 on features because the finish isn't a Gibson custom type finish, (I've read at Gibson's site, that some were wondering, but no you cannot feel the wood grain) and there's no wak like a Strat would have. I'd recommend this to even Angus Young in a heartbeat. Try it whether your an SG fan or not, and I've also tried and am amazed by the Les Tribute, give them a try. You will fall in love.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
