I had returned to the bass market and was weighing out my options as, I could not track down the amp I was looking for. Now, I've never been a Fender fan despite that many people swear by the company. I thought for the price ($150 else where) that this being a 30 watt amp with an overdrive that it was a very reasonable deal. Needless to say, the over drive on this amp is very poor and, I personally found the overall tone of the amp to be fairly dull. It is clear and does it's job but, it is not very inspiring. Personally, I would recommend the Marshall MB30 instead, which has two channels and more features and, a better tone in my opinion.

the distortion is useable but not great, and the lack of real low end make it hard to get a really deep vintage tone. that said, it is a great little amp. very crisp and responsive to playing style. with the mid scooped it is nice and punchy and with the mids brought back up, a fretless bass will sing. some reviews state that this amp is lacking in features, which in my opinion is a bonus. modelling technology and FX in amps tend to overwhelm what you are actually doing and kill the dynamics of your playing. the clarity of this amp means that varying the style and position of your picking, fingering or slapping is instantly apparent - and for a practice amp that is what you need. Price was not an issue in choosing this amp, it was chosen for it's sound and quality. It is one of four fender amps i currently own - and although it is the smallest and cheapest, for practising and playing at home it is the best.
