Judging by the serial number, mine is a 2019, made in Indonesia in the new PRS SE factory by Cor-Tek (Cort factory for PRS ?....). Purchased mid-March 2020 in Orleans, Ont. I was looking for a sidekick for my beloved 2001 American Deluxe Fat Stratocaster, so I wouldn't bang it around all the time. I don't know why I've overlooked PRS guitars for so long, but they certainly have my attention now. I first intended to get a Custom 24, but when I saw this one in a gorgeous, nicely book-matched, deep 3D flame top in vintage sunburst, I had to take it off the wall and try it. These SE guitars have variable quality tops ranging from just OK to something looking like a NAMM showroom piece....and mine looks like the latter. Plugged it in a Roland Jazz Chorus combo to bring out the cleanest tones, tried all the pickup positions, and that was that! The guitar never went back on the wall, and straight to checkout. Some details if you care to read on: 3 piece mahogany back with a transparent finish in deep brownish-copper color. very nice wood grain on the back. Natural maple binding all around body, with an approx 2/3" maple top at the middle of the body, and a highly figured, thin flame maple veneer on top. Body finish and details are very nice. The body is a little bit thinner and lighter than my alder strat, which makes for a very comfortable guitar. The pickups are perhaps the nicest surprise here. I would honestly buy these to put in a couple of my other imports. Very clear, full, well balanced. The coil splits are actually quite usable and, other than the obvious drop in volume, are pretty close to dedicated, single coil pickups on a US strat. Only downside here is that the tone/coil split knob is very loose and spins too easily. I'm also not a huge fan of the black&white look of the zebras. Would prefer all black or all white. The 6 screw pivot tremolo was a first of that type for me. However it was not properly setup from the factory. I took it apart completely and reinstalled as per PRS specs. Tuning stability is not the best I've seen, but I think a set of locking tuners should help, as well as setting the back end of trem against the body (non-floating). The trem block is nice thick iron, with 4 springs on it. Individual string saddles height and intonation easy to set. The trem arm has its own tightening screw so you can adjust how loose or tight it'll be when rotating it. The nut slots were all at the exact proper height, but a couple were a bit too narrow, creating a slight tuning instability and some squeaking when using the trem. 3 piece set maple neck and 3 piece headstock. Again nice wood grain on both. PRS's version of a "wide-thin" neck is a good combo and very fluid to play. A nice compromise I would say between a standard US strat neck and an Ibanez Wizard neck. Fretboard radius is again closer to a Strat, at 10', and fits the size of the neck nicely. Neck edges are slightly rolled, as are the fret edges, no sharp ends. Nice even, dark rosewood fingerboard, a full 1/4" thick, with the bird inlays very nicely set. No gaps whatsoever, no smudges of glue or residue. Fret position side dots included. Stock tuners are nice and smooth, but I will likely replace them with the either PRS locking ones, or Grover 506C, which have the same angled screw position. Frets are highly polished and note bends glide nicely. I did notice a bit of leveling to be done on a few frets. Took it back to the store for the post-purchase setup, and James at the Orleans location did a great job, as usual. Excess nut height was shaved and polished, slot width adjusted, a few problem frets leveled nicely, fretboard cleaned and conditioned, action set with my fav string height of 4/64" on the bass side and 3/64" on the treble side. The PRS truss rod was another nice surprise. They use a much bigger end nut than usual, along with a special hex key for it (included). Truss rod movement was very smooth. Just the right amount of tension. Another small plus: the strap buttons are bigger than average and stay more securely on a standard strap without locks. Overall definitely one of the best guitars I've ever played at that price range. Very easy to play, sounds like a much higher cost instrument. Absolutely worth the money. A high quality instrument in every aspect. And again kudos to the staff at the Orleans store, always a pleasant experience.

I was looking for a sidekick for my beloved 2001 American Deluxe Fat Stratocaster, my main axe among a small collection of about 12 guitars, so I wouldn't bang it around all the time. I don't know why I've overlooked PRS guitars for so long, but they certainly have my attention now. I first intended to get a Custom 24, as I do not yet own a 24 fret guitar. The Orleans store had a few models on display, but when I saw this one in a gorgeous, nicely book-matched, deep 3D flame top in vintage sunburst, I had to take it off the wall and try it. These SE guitars have variable quality tops ranging from just OK to something looking like a NAMM showroom piece....and mine looks like the latter. Natural maple binding all around body, with an approx 2/3" maple top at the middle of the body, and a highly figured, thin flame maple veneer on top. Body finish and details are very nice. The body is a little bit thinner and substantially lighter than my alder strat, which makes for a very comfortable guitar. The pickups are perhaps the nicest surprise here. I would honestly buy these to put in a couple of my other imports. Very clear, full, well balanced. The coil splits are actually quite usable and, other than the obvious drop in volume when selected, are pretty close to dedicated, single coil pickups on a US strat. Impressive! Only downside here is that the tone knob is very loose and spins too easily. I'm also not a huge fan of the black&white look of the zebras. Would prefer all black or all white. The 6 screw pivot tremolo was a first of that type for me. However it was not properly setup from the factory. The bass side was pushing against the side of the body, while the treble side was up by a full 1/4", with the string saddles all the way down to compensate.....so much for claims that the setups are all double checked in the States prior to shipping to stores. I took it apart completely and reinstalled as per PRS specs. Restrung it with a set of Elixir Nanoweb, 9's. Plays nicely now with good tuning stability. It does however have a more limited range of motion than most 2 point pivot trems I've owned or played, but quite enough for me as a light trem user. BTW the back cavities were nice and clean, and it appears the electronics cavity is painted with that black, anti-static paint, which is nice for an import. The trem block is nice thick iron, with 4 springs on it. 3 piece set maple neck and 3 piece headstock. Again nice wood grain on both. PRS's version of a "wide-thin" neck is a good combo and very fluid to play. A nice compromise I would say between a standard US stat neck and an Ibanez Wizard neck. Fretboard radius is again closer to a Strat, at 10', which is fine by me, and fits the size of the neck nicely. Neck edges are slightly rolled, as are the fret edges, no sharp ends. Nice even, dark rosewood fingerboard, a full 1/4" thick, with the bird inlays very nicely set. No gaps whatsoever, no smudges of glue or residue. Fret position side dots included. Stock tuners are nice and smooth, but I will likely replace them with the PRS locking ones. Can't use Gotoh's on these, as the holes are drilled differently.... Frets are highly polished and note bends glide very nicely. I did use a proper Stew-Mac fret rocker to test the leveling and did notice just a tiny bit of leveling to be done on a few frets. I may take it back to the store to get that done once that bloody Coronavirus pandemic thing is over. However it still plays nicely with very little buzzing with my fav string height of 4/64" on the bass side and 3/64" on the treble side. The PRS truss rod was another nice surprise. They use a much bigger end nut than usual, along with a special hex key for it (included). I needed to add a bit of relief to achieve the standard 0.015" at the 8th fret. Truss rod movement was very smooth. Just the right amount of tension. Overall definitely one of the best guitars I've ever played at that price range. Very easy to play, sounds like a much higher cost instrument. Absolutely worth the money. A high quality instrument in every aspect.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
