Slipknot lead guitarist Mick Thomson is one of metal's most successful and revered players. His game changing, take-no-prisoners approach to metal guitar has influenced countless musicians worldwide, while his black hole-heavy de-tuned guitar sound has been an integral part of Slipknot for more than two decades.

Capable of handling his acclaimed aggressive technique and tone, the USA Signature Mick Thomson Soloist is a sinister axe loaded with premium features including genuine mahogany body wings coupled with a graphite reinforced through-body three-piece maple neck - carved to a custom super-thin profile for maximum comfort and high- speed playability, and a 12"-16" compound radius ebony fingerboard with 24 frets.

This signature Soloist is powered by a pair of Mick Thomson signature Seymour Duncan Blackouts to complement the complex, crushing riffs Thomson plays in dropped tunings. The EMTY bridge pickup offers the energy and output of the original Blackouts but with Thomson's custom voicing to emphasize the percussive chunk of palm-muted notes. Designed for crystal clear clean tones, the EMTY neck pickup can also produce more aggressive mids and increased sustain for high-speed solos and ominous melodic interludes when you crank up the gain.

Other features include a Jackson MTB HT6 hardtail bridge and locking nut for laser-accurate intonation and ultra-stable tuning, a single volume control, three-way blade switch and a recessed barrel jack.

Beastly sounding with classic style, the USA Signature Mick Thomson Soloist is available in either a Black finish with white binding or in Arctic White with black binding. Both colours feature matching reverse pointed 6-in-line headstocks and black hardware, including the Schaller strap locks and Jackson-branded sealed die-cast tuners. Comes with an SKB hardshell case.

Thought I would give an update after owning just over 2 years: I put Ratio locking tuners on for quick restringing and clipping, especially with how you have to be flipping the guitar a bit more with a reverse headstock. Ratio has all the washers to fit any type of tuner, but I seen yesterday that the Schaller ones fit to. (They would have to be left handed). I've never had such an easy time changing strings from 10-46 to 11-56. I didn't touch the intonation. I finally got a 100W amp again and that's the Friedman JJ-100 and Holy moly! I've been playing through cheaper, lower wattage amps for the last few years and almost forgot how good it is to go through a 100. That being said from my last review, these pickups have turned into my favourite active pickups. Maybe not that versatile but if you want straight forward, low end bridge clarity and tightness with a beautiful neck pickup. This is it, but that's also IMO. The bridge is very high output, so I don't really do and rolling back or using the middle for cleans. You can experiment away on that one. She must be around the 7.5-8 lbs mark. Only two negatives happened and aren't big: The input jack was loose and with the deep slot, it was kind of annoying to tighten, awkwardly. And in the last few months I've gotten a touch of fret buzz down around the 1-5 frets. Fixed with the truss rod and action.

I wanted to wait until I put her through a better amp before reviewing but that's alright. It's a very straight forward guitar with simple controls. The neck is thinner than I'm used to but it's something I like to switch over to from time to time. Honestly it just feels like a weapon. I like to go to my Fenders and Gibson for my classic feel/sound but switch to this when you really wanna dig in. It's not as comfy as my other guitars with the thinner neck and locking nuts corners. I love Floyd Roses for the fun you can have and their tuning stability but hate restringing and the hassle you have to go through to change tunings which I still haven't to this day perfected to do with intonation and etc. It's what drew me to this guitar but it's still a little annoying to change tunings when you just want to switch over quickly, so she usually stays in one tuning for a while. I've only put her through a tiny terror so far so yeah, chug away and cleans are "meh" which I know can get better. Waiting for my next amp to truly test. When she first came out of the box with the heavier gauge strings, she sounded mean even unplugged.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
