A wonderful new guitar from Larrivee. The familiar proprietary L body with a Spruce top and African Khaya Mahogany back & sides. All done up in a smooth satin finish. Excellent balance, smooth response and that wonderful Larrivee tone.

I had the joy of speaking with Jean Larrivee several years ago at the North Vancouver L&M store where he talked about his career as a wood person and how it led him into the guitar business....and how his wood knowledge and passion now underpins his guitar business. I asked him, at that time, about the range of L, D, OM, etc. guitars and the variety of finishes (and prices). I was curious to understand the relationship to these designs and finishes relative to the sound that could be expected from the guitar. First, he said, the L body (his Larrivee-specific design) was his way of making the most balanced sounding guitar available. Second, fancier finish and trim don't make a better sounding guitar. While the trim ups the aesthetics, the reality is that the sound comes from the woods, the design and construction quality. When it came time to upgrade to a world-class guitar it was a no-brainer to purchase an L-02. An L body - simple finish - excellent design and construction. Wow - what a wonderful sounding instrument....and easy to play - great action! No buzzes. Wonderful lows. Clear and resonant mids and highs. The L is the most balanced sounding guitar I've played. Thanks, Jean!

Only difference between the 02 and 03 is trim. Same excellent build quality and sound. Now made in the US so wonder if the falling dollar will trigger a price increase hope not but starting to see prices on other brands climbing and old stock drying up. If prices align with 25-30% exchange these guitars at $1099 will be a steal!

I had heard people rave about Larrivee but wasn't until I played one to I realize what a gem these guitars are. Previously owned Simon & Patrick Woodland Pro (another gem for the price) but this Larrivee sounds beautiful. The L shape is perfect and for finger style which I mostly play the 1-3/4 nut helps big time. I was lucky to have gotten mine for $1050 during summer sale but after owning this for 2 months and hours spent playing I'd gladly pay $1250 for it. I'd be hard pressed to find anything this good at this price range.

I've played acoustic guitar all my life, almost always finger picking, except when I played flat-pick rhythm in a little known but popular bluegrass band. I also played a little classical, a lot of folk, rock and pop and some flamenco. Rock was fun -- fights to music in Legion halls. Cash was scarce so I found myself having to play guitars that had a lot of laminates. You could paddle a canoe with it one day, and play it the next. My friends all had Martins, Guilds or high-end Gibsons and boy did I want a 'real' guitar. So I've been looking for many, many years for a solid wood guitar that I could afford that was well made, with great wood and time-tested design. The Larriveé L- 02 is that guitar. At just a hair over $900 I felt there must be something wrong with it -- my detailed research had found nothing even close. In the end, I bought one and took it home. To my surprise it came with a decent hard case. It was strung and set up for light gauge strings, which is what I wanted but it took two months to rebuild the calluses I'd had before. Every day, I got closer to what the guitar could really do. Others have noted something called 'base sustain'. I'd never had a guitar that did that. Now I know. Low E is actually a note, not a sort of 'thrub' sound. And so on. Each note is a bell; a chord is a collection of bells. Playing it, I realized I was a much better guitarist than I'd thought. I would recommend this guitar to anyone, but especially to those starting out. A crap guitar will make you think you're not very good. It will hold you back. And the classic guitar shape of the L-02 gives a sweeter sound than the dreadnought version, which costs more, too. Sure, you have to care for a solid wood guitar and the climate in Nova Scotia poses some challenges, especially those days when you literally can't see more than the siding on the house across the street. Humidity (prolonged) and dryness (ditto) will cause havoc with a solid wood guitar. Oh, but man it is worth it. Think of it as a high maintenance girlfriend. And, in the months I've had the L--02, all the humidity and heat we've had here hasn't affect it at all. There were a couple of days when the back got slightly rounded. That was after weeks of fog. I checked it carefully for signs of swelling. Nothing more than the back. I also love the simplicity of this guitar. No pearl inlays, but dots where you need them, yes, and ebony fingerboards and bridge are a big plus, too, as are the 'tusq' nut and saddle (better than bone). So do I like my new Larriveé. Yes. And don't forget to use the free one-time set-up which can be anytime up to one year from the date of purchase. So play yours for a few months until you're sure about what changes to make. If you take care of it, you'll have it for life. And it will sound even better twenty years from now. You can play is gently, just a murmer, and it's clear and clean, or you can flat-pick it hard and fill a dance hall with no amp at all. Amazing

I was looking for a Canadian made accoustic, nothing fancy but solid wood. There are a lot of great options (everything in the Godin family were great), but this Larrivee really stood alone. It was more than I planned on spending but so very worth it already. No frills, but amazing tone and projection, very comfortable and versatile. Really worth checking out if you see one.

A great guitar - sounds great and that extra little bit of nut width (1 3/4) does make a difference when playing fingerstyle. Love the bass sustain on it!

I love this guitar. It is so easy to play, there is no buzzing in the higher frets and the sound on both bass and treble strings is outstanding.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
