The model's cousin, the MDR7506 was recommended on wirecutter dot com and on TekThing, a YouTube channel. The MDR7510 has similar performance as the xxx06, without the foldling hinges (a positive feature for me [one less part to wear out]). This particular model's tricky to find... and Long-McQuaid's price is competitive. The drivers within its housing were recommended by a sound engineer colleague of mine. The MDR7510's aesthetics remind me of a 1990s IBM laptop... boxy and black.

It took a bit of doing, but my sales rep at the Bloor store was able to track down a pair. Their sound quality is very similar to the MDR7506. These are mat-black, boring looking headphones with PREMIUM drivers hidden inside. I chose the MDR7510 because they are rigid (I've bad luck with folding headphones and hinges breaking)... and isolate sound. If you chose this model, be ready for a 1980s style, coiled cable. The 3.5? jack's handle is thin enough to fit into devices with outer 3rd party 'shells?. My iPhone can drive it with ease. If one's looking for a 'reference headset?... a no nonsense, repairable product, this model's for you.
