This solid-top A-style mandolin evokes the hugely popular instruments played by thousands of mandolin enthusiasts in clubs and orchestras during the early twentieth century. The sunburst finish on its maple back, sides and neck and on the carved solid spruce top is a tribute to those historic mandolins from the Midwestern US. The fretboard is bound with white celluloid and the period-correct rosewood bridge is adjustable for height. Gold Tone's expert shop setup guarantees that each GM-50 has excellent tone and playability.

I am not great mandolin player but sometimes double on it at gigs. When I went to buy this, I brought a mandolin player/teacher along and we played pretty much every mando in the store, including some 4 or 5 times the price of this one. While this wasn't necessarily the best sounding one, it sounded very good (the differences in tone were not as dramatic as the differences in price.) The construction, feel and intonation are outstanding; much better than the other offerings in it's range (Epiphone and Fender). I've had it two years, I've had no problems with it, and it keeps sounding better.
