I bought the metal-body, round neck version GT Beard after months of research. The finish/workmanship on the fretboard is the worst of any guitar I've played. My $110 Epi L.P. Express is a LOT better. There are several chunks out of the fretboard, frets not seated properly, and I could go on. It does sound good (after fixing the cone), but I do not recommend anything from Gold Tone.

Although made in Asia, this instrument is carefully inspected and set up in the USA. The most important piece, the resonator cone is made in the US by Paul Beard. In a 'Dobro', this is what determines the sound. As a result this instrument comes remarkably close to the instruments made by Beard, which would cost $4K. The craftsmanship is flawless, the tone, rich and golden. A real gem!
