The new Gibson Les Paul Modern incorporates many contemporary updates that players have embraced such as lighter-weight bodies and innovative slim taper neck with asymmetrical profiles. The Modern fingerboard is crafted with genuine ebony and a compound radius for lower, and cleaner action. The neck/body joint features the new Modern contoured heel for effortless access to the highest frets as well as maximum sustain and stability. Hardware upgrades include Grover locking Rotomatic tuners, clear top hat knobs and BurstBucker Pro and BurstBucker Pro + pickups. The control assembly features 4 push-pull pots to switch between the Gibson humbucker and the single coil P90 sounds, both of which have defined so many genres of music across multiple generations since Gibson invented them, phase switching and pure bypass for functional and versatile sonic variety. This is a great instrument that can produce almost any sound you might be looking for. Awesome neck provide and the new design allows easy unimpeded access up the neck. Yes, it's expensive but the nameplate says it all; you do get what you pay for.

I bought this Gibson Les Paul Modern because I have back issues and sometimes struggle playing my Standard. I thought it may feel “kinda” like a Les Paul, and sound like a hollow with less sustain given the neck profile and weight relief. I have had this guitar now for just under 6 months and What I got was the absolute best Les Paul I have ever played. The sustain is exactly what you would expect from a Gibson Les Paul and after struggling a little bit to get used to the neck, it is now the neck that I love the most. The different tones that you can get from the push pots will really let you experiment in new ways. Locking tuners as well. It is not a AAA burst, and that may be the only knock, but honestly the metallic charcoal paint is absolutely stunning. Pair that with the darkness of the ebony fretboard, and the soft brown mahogany it is one good looking instrument.

Recently Gibson remodeled the Les Paul and created the modern line. They narrowed the neck and contoured the body to meet the neck so that it is even and carved to let your hand move to the high notes with ease. The Rock solid weight and true brilliant sustained tones have not been lost. The guitar simply feels comfortable. It is a pleasure to play. The amazing tones and range of sound dynamics from the push pull pot controls add many different sounds for recording and playing live. I was always a Fender Strat style lover. I am converted. This guitar has a beefy and clear articulated sound for both clean and overdrive tones. Simply the best Electric Guitar out there and I am proud to own one. I am now a Gibson Guy! Thank you Gibson.

Traded in an older regular Les Paul with the typical burst finish for a red one of these. Although Gibson seemingly abandoned the Standard for other guitar modern appointments for years at least they went back to what the LP was originally about with classic burst finishes with their 50s and 60s standards with period correct features. However the modern appointments still have their place to measure up to some of the competition out there. They kept the weight relief, circuit board with plugs and coil taps that some hated, added ebony, clear knobs, locking tuners, all chrome hardware, higher gain pickups, and modernized the neck that is skinny on the treble side yet rounded on the bass side. a black rather than cream pickguard plus a molded heel joint. Different from most traditional LPs but very comfortable. Just hope it sells and Gibson gets past its rough years lately and comes back to the fore. This guitar has lots of tonal features with the coil taps. The locking Grover tuners are easy to install strings on. They could have used the Richlite on the fretboard as thats modern over ebony or rosewood. I have played a guitar with Richlite. Its similar to ebony but plenty of people hated that too especially as it was meant to mimic ebony. They put it on the LP Customs out of the Custom Shop which to some was a bad idea on a classic iconic guitar. On the Modern it would have made sense. I wish they would have more sparkly colors on these too like Gold or Silver although the Red is awesome. They could have red, brown or blue burst as well. Soundwise the pickups are great but not very low gain. The coil taps are almost a waste. They are not very single coil sounding but more like a slightly thinner P90. The tone bypass you could almost pull out for soloing as it acts more like a boost, the phase one could be good for quieter strumming or a particular tone for soloing all on its own. The price is a little high too as its more expensive than the 50s and 60s models. Still pretty impressive and I hope these Moderns hold their own in the years to come.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
