I called the store the evening before I decided to visit in person the next day and got to speak with an employee named, Mike. I told him I was looking for a ukelele and didn't have much background in musical instruments and he encouraged me to visit the store to have my questions answered. I went the following day and oh my he gave great customer service! I had a lot of questions and he answered each of them with patience. We were able to have a conversation about how's everything going during COVID outside of instrument talk. When I asked him how to strum, he saw I did my nails and offered me two free picks! So sweet and considerate, and that attention to detail! I highly recommend going to the store to check out their instruments! I entered in and left super happy with my purchase. I was not only able to get my ukelele but was also able to have a very pleasant conversation with Mike! Oh by the way, apparently there's three employees who go by the name, Mike. The Mike I spoke with had long hair (in a ponytail) and very blue eyes. :D FYI: Mike told me that they have this service where if the instrument you purchased goes on sale for ex. black friday or christmas within 30 days, if you call in the store, they can refund you what is discounted! :) In terms of the ukelele it definitely feels very great in the hand and the wood is beautiful. I only had it for two days and so far I do find that I had to tune it before using it even though I saw in the other reviews that it should hold the tune well for about a week. I'm not really seeing that currently but hopefully that is true going forward the more I use it.

I bought this ukulele as my first "real" instrument after the cheap, starter-kit uke I had bit the dust. It did not disappoint. It's a beautiful little instrument, and it's clear that it's high-quality (what I've come to expect from Kala since). It's super playable, has a great sound, and is awesome for the price. Love mine to pieces.

I purchased this little Uke from L&M a few years ago. I wasn't sure if Uke would be for me, but I wanted one that wouldn't immediately discourage me from playing because it sounded horrible, so I bypassed the cheapest ones and came across this little fella. I've loved it from the moment I laid eyes on it. It's adorable, it stays in tune very well and it has a rich, beautiful tone for such a tiny, little instrument! It sounds bigger than it is. I also have a tenor and a baritone uke but they don't see half of the attention that this guy does. It is, by far, my favorite. It's a great beginner's instrument because it's inexpensive and you can make lovely sounds with it with very little practice. And you will still love it as an advanced player. It never gets old. It's a real "go-to" Uke for everything!

I would highly suggest this ukulele for anyone considering learning. It's affordable price makes it even better and the quality is amazing. I would suggest paying the extra $20 and getting the Kala-S as the edges are binded and produce a better, louder sound but the 15s is still an amazing deal

Recently bought it as a gift for a friend who wants to start playing the ukulele. It is way better than the Denver ukulele that I own. The strings on this Kala soprano ukulele feel lighter and are easier to pluck away with. The sound is also more full and pleasant. Seriously thinking about taking this ukulele and giving my friend my Denver uke...or just buying my own

It stays tuned. But it is not in tune with itself. When strumming the open strings, they are in tune, individually and together. But when putting fingers down, one string is always too sharp. Bothersome for anyone with a developed ear.

i haven't played music for over 20 years. i realized i needed music in my life again, and decided to teach myself a new instrument. i wanted something that would be relatively inexpensive and quiet enough to practice in an apartment. i've never tried a ukulele before, or even handled one in person, so it was a bit of an impulse buy (i did do a couple hours of research before ordering). i've had it now for 2 1/2 weeks and haven't been able to put it down. it looks, feels, and sounds lovely; not at all jokey or toy-like. i'm a frugal person but i feel like it has already paid for itself in the joy it has brought me so far! :)

I'm a beginner and bought this uke at the end of March and have been playing it for about 2 months. I think it's an amazing starter uke and I originally came into the store hoping to spend $45 on a cheap Denver one but the employee recommended this one. I love it. It barely goes out of tune now that I've been playing it for a while and I think it was a good investment.

About 6 months ago I decided that I wanted to learn ukulele, so after lots of searching I decided to buy this one rather than one of the cheaper ones because I figured I'd rather pay the extra money for a quality ukulele and I made the right choice! This ukulele is amazing, it sounds amazing, sometimes I'll bring it to class and we'll play songs, I literally have played it every single day since I got it! all in all defiantly a good choice for a ukulele!

I teach music for a living and at one point taught Ukulele five days a week (until I lost my mind of course). I have seen more ukuleles than the average person. For the price. You can't beat this thing the machine heads on this ukulele are solid it hardly goes out of tune. I really wish students invested in a ukulele like this one, you really get what you pay for. At this price point it has no binding (the stuff around the edges which makes it look more finished and increases its durability). This is only a problem if you think you might damage the edge of the instrument which isn't likely. Get this ukulele it's AWESOME!!!

Features found on higher priced Ukes, including nubone bridge and nut, not just cheap plastic. Intonation is very good throughout. Aquila strings need to be stretched like all good strings at first but then it holds tuning very well. Laser etched rosette, beautiful satin finish. Sound is big but not too bright. Bass is resonant. Get a hard case while youre at it and this will last you a lifetime.

I got one from my husband for Christmas (bless him !) and I'm utterly enchanted with it. It's my first stringed instrument since an unsuccessful stint with classical guitar in the late 70's. It's got a lovely sound; looks beautiful; and is easy to play. As noted by other reviewers, get a tuner as it does need re-tuning for the first week or so as the strings get broken in. My next step is to get a carry case for it !

I strongly recommend this ukulele. It is the best "cheep" uke you can by. I have owned mine for quite awhile now and I am still excited to play every time I can. It is small, but it sounds big! By far, it is my favorite ukulele to play. If you are a beginner and you want to start playing the ukulele, this is the perfect one for you.

Great beginner ukulele, sounds is awesome and resonates. Easy to tune because of gears. First couple of days of playing you need to constantly tune as strings are adjusting. I find it needs to be cleaned (of dust/small particles) often even though I keep it in a case.

I have played the guitar for a while, and this is my first ukulele. So far so good! The strings are still very new so I have to tune it fairly frequently but other than that it seems like a very durable, good first ukulele to own. * Note: carrying case not included.

Bought this for my mother for Christmas now I play it all the time. The Uke looks nice and is well made. The action on the fret board is very low so it's easy on the fingers, specially when your first learning. I am very happy with it. Going to get one for myself. Happy strumming

I bought this ukulele as a present to myself for my birthday, as I've been wanting to teach myself how to play. So far, I'm completely in love with it. It's well made; the wood and hardware are of good quality. It's also very nice to look at! The product photos really don't do it justice. It sounds lovely. Great resonance for such a small instrument! One thing I'll mention is that the strings sometimes buzz a tiny bit at the tuning pegs with hard strumming, but it's really not that big of a deal. I doubt you'd notice it at all if you weren't in a completely quiet room. If you don't own a chromatic tuner, I would definitely suggest picking one up. The strings on this thing don't hold a tune for more than 5 minutes at a time for the first 2 days or so. You will find yourself needing to tune it less and less as you stretch the strings more and more, but a tuner is very handy to have and it will make your life easier. Trust me. Overall, I'd recommend this model! It's a fantastic value and is a perfect entry-level instrument that doesn't sound (or look) cheap.

Love this Uke! I've had it for almost a year now and I haven't lost any affection for it! It rarely ever needs a tune up, you could leave it for months and it would still be in tune! (No joke) I recommend it to any beginner or advanced player! It's such a beautiful instrument and fairly easy to pick up on if your looking for a new hobby!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
