Epiphone's history with legendary guitarist and innovator Les Paul dates back to the early 1940s when Les, working late at night at the Epiphone factory on 14th St. in New York City, created what might have been the world's first solidbody electric guitar, better known as "The Log." Over the years, Les continued to work closely with Epiphone luthiers reviewing new product ideas and offering suggestions. Epiphone always made a good guitar, Les liked to say.

Perhaps Les greatest achievement, the Les Paul Standard, has been the most sought-after electric guitar in the world for over 50 years. Now, Epiphone's Les Paul Standard Plus Top model offers the legendary Les Paul Standard sound with a stunning Flame maple top.

Players like Jimmy Page, Slash, Ace Frehley, Mark Knopfler, Zakk Wylde, Alex Lifeson and countless others have come to rely on the unique look, feel and tone of the Les Paul Standard. And now, you too can experience a real Les Paul Standard Plus Top at a price that won't break the bank!

Body
The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top features a Solid mahogany body and Flame maple Top that deliver the classic tone and sustain that can only come from a "real" Les Paul. Like all Epiphone Les Pauls--and unlike cheap knock-offs, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard features a 14 degree headstock that gives you more pressure at the nut for more sustain with less tuning hang-ups caused by "string-tree" gadgets. A rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays complete the classic Les Paul Standard Plus Top look and feel and the hand set-neck delivers outstanding string-to-body resonance. Medium-jumbo frets add to the smooth and sustained tone.

Electronics
A pair of Alnico Classic humbucker pickups deliver a vintage vibe with rich warm tone that give you that famous Les Paul sound. When winding the humbuckers, Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures quiet operation, free from microphonic hum. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is placed on the unit to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed back on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax. Epiphone uses only the highest quality parts for their pickups like ABS plastic bobbins, 1010 Cold Rolled Steel pole shoes and pole screws, Alnico magnets and the finest magnet wire available.

Hardware
The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top features a locking Tune-o-matic/StopBar fully adjustable bridge which has been a classic for over 50 years. And now, Epiphones updated, patent- pending design auto locks the bridge and tailpiece in place with no tools needed! The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top uses 1" diameter potentiometers for better "throw", longer life, and reliable service. The all-metal toggle switches use rugged spring-steel contacts to ensure years of reliable service and performance. Epiphones proprietary output jack features an improved contact shape and heavy-duty spring steel to increase reliability. The Les Paul Standard Plus Top also includes Grover machine heads on its tuners for stability and long life.

I own one of these and I have been very disappointed with it since I bought it. Mine isn't a 2018, but it is a cherry, Plus Top Pro. I know that mine was the last year they sold the Plus Tops before they started putting the push-pull coil splits on them. While the guitar sounds wonderful and it is a good guitar for the price. I have had many issues with it. In fact, I am taking it in to get it set up again for the 2nd time in the last 6 months and the 3rd time since I bought it new. When I bought it, the 18th fret was dead on the high E string. 3 setups and countless at-home adjustments can't resolve this. Now every time the humidity in my house changes, I have to do a truss rod adjustment. I have done so many adjustments on the thing, I need to get it professionally set up again. Also, the thing will not stay in tune. It didn't when I bought it and it still won't. I have tried every possible thing. I have a custom guitar being made right now...and cannot wait until I can burn this thing. I refuse to sell it and make it someone else's problem. Sorry for being so negative, but I have to tell the truth. Of course, this experience is no fault of the wonderful folks at Long $ Mcquade. They have been nothing but amazing to deal with. ...Just think about it... the humidity kills this thing's neck...but my freaking piano can withstand it and stay in tune... It is brutally disappointing. I can not stress it enough. .another thing that I just remembered. The G and B strings are way too loud on this thing when using the bridge pickup. Adjustments don't do anything.

I am no expert by any means, but this guitar is well worth the sale price of $699. I have owned it for a week now and can't put it down. The quality and sound for a guitar this price us amazing. It feels solid and well built. Sound is warm and deep. Everyrhing functions as it should and the finish is fantastic. This guitar will fool you into thinking it is worth way more money. GO BUY ONE!!!.

This guitar is heavy, solid, stays in tune, has great pickups, quality sound, feels good to play, looks good, and is authentically Epiphone, a brand I am starting to love. I'm so happy they made this a left handed variation.

Love this thing. got mine last week. Price needs to come down a bit though. $800 brand new? For an extra couple hundred you can get full fledged Gibson. Not Sure What GIbson/Epiphone are thinking here with that price. Should be closer to $500. Look what you can get from Fender for the same price. Still love this thing. Closest Ill ever get to that vintage LP look that we all strive for.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
