The HH is nice but as others have said the tuners are garbage. Sterling increased the price by about $300 for this model. Be warned it looks incredible on the website but in person it looks cheap. The neck is gorgeous to play and aesthetically Returned it. Bought a used Ray4HH from LM then upgraded the pre amp and pups. I miss the R34 neck but it’s not bad

First off, Long and McQuade has a fantastic return policy and I’m happy to keep doing business with them. Very grateful for their service. This bass has two major flaws that make it unplayable: -The tuning pegs don’t work. -The truss rod doesn’t work. To be clear, this isn’t just a one-off - these are common problems for this brand. For a $1,500 instrument, this is totally unacceptable. More details: -Sterling by Music man is using tuning pegs on their instruments that are made of very cheap metal - so cheap it might as well be foil. As soon as you turn them, the gears actually grind themselves away, almost immediately. This is a well-documented and common issue with these instruments (just do a quick search online) which unfortunately, hasn’t been corrected yet. -The truss rod is unusable and won’t tighten at all. I’m wondering if it’s because it had to be maxed out for setup before shipping, to compensate for a poor build. Some folks say you just have to work on it a bit to get it moving, which is true in some cases, but not this case. I tried everything, and even brought it to a certified tech who had 3 people working on it. I really wanted to love Sterling by Music Man, but had to return the bass. Bought a real Music Man instead!! Glad I did.

This is my 2nd try at getting one of these. My 1st attempt at purchasing this bass bass came with the stealth black HH model had 3 adjustments and a neck replacement due to what was deemed as a faulty neck. The new neck, however, was worse than the original. My 2nd attempt at buying one of these came with ordering this beautiful amber burl top into the store. Within 10 seconds of playing it, I handed it back because of brutal fret buzz. There were popped frets, and I'm not sure yet what the issue is with the neck. It's currently with a PLEK machine. There was a 3rd bass (daphne blue) I tried in store with fret buzz as well, but I did not inquire about adjusting it. I'd recommend these hands down if not for their necks. They play really smoothly and sound amazing. It'd be a 5 star bass for sure. Unfortunately, unless you're lucky enough to find one with a good neck, I'd avoid it completely.

Make sure you try this in person! All depends on if you're lucky enough to get a good neck.
Never buy this bass online if it'll cost you to return it.
If you get a good neck though, this bass is great! It growls, it's punchy and very dynamic in sound. The playability is so smooth. The roasted maple neck feels great and really allows you to move quickly along the fret board.
I had heard that there were issues with their necks, and that rumour was not false, but everything else about this bass is solid.
I'd have no issues giving this bass a 5, but unfortunately, this is a pretty big issue, so 3 it is.

I am a Fender guy and have been for many years. My #1 bass is an American Performer Precision. However, sometimes you needs something that, sound-wise, is a bit outside the box. The Ray34HH is just that. I've had the Ray34, which is an excellent bass, but like the EBMM Stingray, it's a one-trick pony. The HH brings much more to the table with the addition of the neck humbucker. The 5-way toggle switch gives a massive combination of tones, especially when you dial in the 3-band EQ. From the thunderous neck pup to the very-close-to-traditional Ray sound of the bridge pickup, this model offers quite a lot. Personally, I love the Stealth Black satin finish with the baked maple neck. My only issue with the bass is that it is a bit heavy (for me, anyway). Otherwise, this is an excellent addition to any arsenal!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
