A Rock Classic Returns with Gibson TB-Plus Humbuckers with Ceramic Magnets

The Thunderbird IV was first introduced in 1963 and instantly became one of rocks most recognizable bass guitar designs. For almost five decades, the Thunderbird has powered artists as varied as Nikki Sixx, The Who, Kings of Leon, Cheap Trick, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan and The Silversun Pickups. Turn on your radio and youll hear a Thunderbird bass. Now, Epiphone takes all the vintage mojo of the original Thunderbird IV and sends it flying into the future with Gibson TB Plus humbuckers with ceramic magnets and all the Birds original styling and features intact.

The Thunderbird IV was one of the most radical designs to come out of the Gibson and Epiphone Kalamazoo factory in the early 60s, thanks to legendary automotive designer Ray Dietrich, who was asked to put a new twist on solidbody guitars and basses. The sound of the Thunderbird IV was as cutting edge as its design and now the Thunderbird Classic-IV PRO returns with all of Epiphones first-class quality and a lifetime guarantee, but without the hassles of owning (or hiding) a vintage instrument.

I bought the Thunderbird Pro IV with the Gibson TB Plus humbuckers in vintage sunburst for my son. He is playing it through an Orange Crush 100W bass amp, and it sounds awesome. I normally play guitars of the 6 string variety, but I find myself playing this guitar when he is not home, because I just love the sound so much and it is a blast to play. It is an excellent choice for grunge, classic rock, metal, hair metal etc.. which is exactly what he was looking for, and it just looks wicked. The guitar was set up perfect right from the factory, and the fit and finish on this one is great.

Of all the Thunderbird offerings this one is the closest to an actual Gibson Thunderbird. It's pretty much an exact replica to the 2013 Gibson except it's made in Indonesia instead of the USA. The quality control on mine was exceptional. This is a very well built guitar. Just a note of caution, it will be difficult but not impossible to find a gig bag to fit the Thunderbird. The hard case Long and McQuade offers might be your best bet, unless like me, you do not like hard cases.

I played real Gibson Tbird vs this thing A/B in store, this bass had punchier, gnarlier output - no jokes. 1. Bass is lighter / almost no neck dive! 2. Body shape is more refined 3. Amazing finish work / properly set up from the factory 4. Price!!! Besides the price difference and logo on the truss cover, this thing screams to be the "real" Gibson. I dont think you can get the better bang for the buck, except maybe the Squier 70s Jazz Vintage modified, that one is also immaculate product.

This is the first Bass I ever bought from L&Mc it's is awesome. I've still been learning how to use it but otherwise it sounds amazing and I recommend anyone to buy it if you're looking for a bass. The sound is clear and the craftsmanship on it is very good. It feels nice to hold and rest on your lap.

I bought the VS classic pro Thunderbird. I had to get it ordered in because they didn't have any in stock. Great setup out of the box. The only issue I found with the setup was the input jack was loose, but that was easy to fix. The finish was more of a cherry finish compared to the colour in the product pictures. Also, the headstock doesn't have the highlight around it, as it was painted black. Still a beautiful guitar, and this is just something to be aware of. There were a few finish imperfections, but so slight, you wouldn't see them unless you were looking for them. This bass is very easy to play for me. I like it better than fender j and p basses in terms of comfort and playability. The sound is amazing. Gibson pickups are great. Overall, this bass is a great value, and sounds incredible. I love this bass.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
