Very detailed and precise, but not cold or harsh. An excellent mic, very sensitive. I use this for voice over work (character & narration), and it really delivers. Made in Germany in the same factory as Neumann mics (Sennheiser owns Neumann), so you know it's quality, and it sounds like it.

I stress for the money, it is a very good mic for most any situation. Records a clean, crisp track for later processing, which is does need to get the best sound.. Compared to my Beta 58 is does offer more recording voice or guitar/mandolin - but that is to be expected from a good condenser mic. German made quality to be sure, but along with that it is to my ear, a bit too sterile. Clean, crisp, a bit on the cold side, but for the money I don't think there is much else that compares considering what you get. A really well made shock mount, a basic manual, and a separate solid mount made of a thinner plastic that does flex when you adjust it, but it does the job if you don't need the shock mount.

My goto mic for vocals and acoustic instruments, the MK4 really is a workhorse of a mic and yields great results. Pair this mic up with an ART Pro Channel or any good sounding tube mic pre and a little bit of optical compression for a great sounding vocal chain (works great for Saxophone as well). Recording loud sources (guitar amps, drums) will require a preamp with an in built pad as the mic doesn't have one built in (the MK8 is the same mic but with selectable polar patterns and a pad, it costs 899) but it's typical for an LDC without a pad to be like this though.

I use this microphone for all my professional Voice-Over sessions. It has a beautiful, rich and natural pickup, and can be used on anything from a hard over-the-top read, to a smooth audio-book recording or corporate video. This microphone compares VERY favourably to the Neumann TLM 103 (that costs 3x the price) and is built in the same clean room...If you are serious about sound and don't want a Chinese knock-off, consider this microphone!

fantastic mic for the money, German Made, great sound, can handle a lot of spl, better than mics costing twice as much that I have tested.
