A rich variety of amp models and effects
There are 11 realistic amp models taken from the flagship Valvetronix series that support a broad range of styles and playing techniques, including perfect simulations of the legendary VOX AC30 that capture the sense of drive typical of vacuum tubes, as well as models of intensely powerful high-gain amps and transparent, clean types. New to the series is a built-in VOX original "Bassilator" circuit, which covers the ultra-low-frequency overtones that cannot be obtained via EQ. This is particularly effective for high-gain models and produces an intensely heavy sound that seems unthinkable from an amp of this size. In addition, there's a pure and clean-sounding LINE input without any distortion, making it an ideal choice for acoustic-electric guitars or keyboards. There's also a full complement of effects, including compressor, chorus, flanger, and tremolo, as well as delay/reverb types. With a total of eight varieties of effects, you'll have plenty of options for shaping your sound.

Versatile rhythm functions
As its name suggests, the MINI5 Rhythm features a newly added rhythm function. It provides 11 built-in rhythms in styles that include 8-beat, 16-beat, rock, metal, and R&B, as well as a built-in metronome. With nine variations for each style, you'll have a generous 99 rhythm patterns to work with. You can easily call up the rhythm pattern you want and adjust its tempo and volume for a great way to jam along with high-quality rhythm patterns, to try out ideas for a new riff or phrase, or to practice playing to a beat to improve your performances. Since these rhythm patterns cover a wide range of musical styles, it is easier to get into the feel of the song being played, making otherwise routine personal practice sessions more enjoyable.

Battery-powered operation
The MINI5 Rhythm features two-way power that can run on batteries (six AA batteries) or an AC adapter (included). Batteries allow up to approximately 19.5 hours of operation (with POWER SELECT set to 0.1W), making this amp an ideal choice for street performances or outdoor playing. It also comes with a carrying strap for easy transport, letting you enjoy playing guitar wherever inspiration may strike.

Plenty of input/output jacks, ideal for the singer/performer
In addition to a guitar input, the MINI5 Rhythm also provides additional types of input and output jacks. The mic input provides an adjustable volume and lets you apply a delay/reverb effect, providing support for vocals. There's also an AUX input that can accept an external audio source such as an MP3 player. It can be used in conjunction with a guitar and mic, for a total of three inputs simultaneously. Also provided is a headphone/line out jack with a built-in cabinet simulator so that when you're recording directly into a multi-track recorder or practicing with headphones, you can obtain the same great cabinet resonance youd get if you had set up a mic in front of the amp.

Switchable power amp wattage
By switching the wattage, you can regulate the volume while still retaining the sense of drive and air obtained by turning the master volume all the way up. The wattage can be switched in three levels: 5 / 1.5 / 0.1W.

After careful research I bought this amp for busking yesterday. It has pretty much everything I can fathom someone needing when busking, isn't too physically heavy & it sounds very good even in comparison to the Peavey Vypyr 15 I use at home. It can play pretty much any genre well, however, if you want to play Black/Death/Doom/Thrash Metal I recommend using a very high gain pedal like the Metal Zone, MXR Fullbore Metal or HM-2 Heavy Metal to get closer to those tones. Mind you that's probably the case for most portable amps & this one kicks some major butt regardless.

Scroll down to the bottom of the comments and you’ll see my initial review of this fabulous little workhorse. More than six years later and it’s the only piece of gear I have that hasn’t been replaced. It is my go to amp that gets powered up almost every day. It still sounds great and hasn’t had any issues at all. All of the pots are still smooth and noiseless. The switches all work with a soft touch just like the day I bought it. The case is scuff free, the chrome nameplate and grille are bright with no signs of wear. Did I mention it still sounds great? If you had any concerns about the longevity of this amp hopefully this long term update will assuage them. This is truly a plug and play little amp requiring only the occasional dusting off to keep it looking new. If this one was lost, stolen or destroyed I’d buy another one to replace it immediately.

I've been looking for something portable with a great sound. I work with different community groups and have been asked many times to go and play in parks, and at beaches and such but I've never been satified with the sound of battery powered amps If you find one with both vocal and instrument tracks separate they have no depth or effects and an acoustic alone just isn't loud enough. Then I found this. I was sceptical at first but watched the reviews and bought it. The guitar sounds are excellent, the drum tracks are fine and are user friendly. The vocals can be set with a nice and rich sounding tone. All three can be set separately for great balance. Highly recommended.

Hands down the best amp for any kind of playing, Busking, even Giging to some degree, it wont give you a full tube amp sound and considering it runs off batteries and its size you should not expect it to. However one guy wrote it is not a busking amp, I would like to ask him what in the world would be, this amp has exceeding loud volume and clear and clean, it has great modelling and great performance. If you are looking for a busking amp this amp is for you, if you are looking for a practice amp this amp is for you. If you are in a semi serious band, you might get away with gigging, not sure but you might for a little while. Short of serious gigging you dont need more than this in your room or home, or in a busking situation, To the guy that wrote he was disappointed in the amp for busking, I am very sure nothing would satisfy him, there are people that cannot be pleased.

Picked this up based on the reviews. If you're planning on playing this outdoors with any background noise (as opposed to busking in a library or morgue), you're going to find yourself pretty disappointed with the amount of sound quality you have to sacrifice in order to be audible. Yes, it's a 5W amp - that's the part of the product name that isn't misleading. Probably great as a practice amp, but for busking you'd be better off picking up something with a bit more muscle.

I own a different version of this little portable 5 watt battery operated amp . I am the owner of a few vntage femder blackface amps from the1960s and my favorite is my1971 Matshall 100 watt superlead I am amazed at how this little amp mimics the sound of all the amps I mentiomed above! I cannot veloeve how well the reverb sounds amd the clean setti g with a strat, I cannot believe how well it nails a marshal circuittone either , Honestly I am verypicky with tone amd understamd good tone ,obviously yoir npt going to have the feel of those great a,ps I memtiomed just because it is a solid state circuit with a 6inch speaker I believe But this little amp really does accurately nail down the tones I e mentioned You can even get a crazy hotrodded marshall effect with this little Guy Apparently im not the only one who love this little amp as when i watched "Steve vais Rig" and Eric Johnsons Rig"On youtube As the camera pans the room showing the artists gear I noticed both these virtuosos have one of these amps handy And did I mention that these little amps are very loud! A great practice amp or for many other applications you wont be disapointed Buy it !

I picked this guy up last night, and it's been a blast. Love the amp options and the rhythm choices are so boss. It might seem a little pricey for such a small amp, but it's packed with features. Super cool also that you can run it DC or on 4 AA batteries. Recommend to anyone!

I also own a Vox AC1R mini amp and have been impressed with the rhythm functions it has but not so much the guitar amp side of it (although it does have a monster sound through headphones). So I started looking into other small Vox amps with rhythm. I read every article and watched every video review I could find on the Mini-5 Rhythm. When L-M finally got some in their Victoria location bolted over and tried the amp out with a Telecaster and a ES335. I was amazed with the tone from this little guy and bought it on the spot. I've since used it with acoustic/electrics, electrics, harmonica and vocals...this thing flat out rocks! I use it most in a 10x10 room, output setting it at 1.5W, volume and gain about 3 o'clock on the AC15 model. It fills the room with lots of volume and great tone. The effects are easy to dial in to get just the right sound you are looking for. Trim up the mic to sing along, sending your vocals over the reverb making it sound like you're in a concert hall. I've really gotten attached to this little amp and would be very upset if it went missing...mostly because they are hard to find in-store. It sounds much better than my Fender G-Dec 15. Although it does not have backing tracks like the G-Dec, it is easier to pick a rhythm and tempo on the Mini-5 and just start playing. It doesn't quite have the presence or tone of my hot rodded Blackstar HT-5 but is easier to dial in the sound I'm wanting than with the HT-5 and pedals. If you are looking for a practice amp or a great sounding go anywhere amp, do yourself a favor and try out the Mini-5 Rhythm...it's a lot of bang (boom?) for the buck.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
