I regret selling this bass. The body wood grain was beautiful but heavy. The neck and feel/playability were excellent and the sound as as good as any fender American jazz bass at a third of the price.

My wife bought me this bass as a birthday gift and this thing absolutely rocks! I've owned it for about 3 years and bought a few more basses since and still find myself using it as a main bass Factory set up was not to my liking but after a quick setup played like dream. The pickups sound great and definetely have that 70's jazz bass mojo to them and are clear with awesome highs and mids and have great low end growl, although they could be a bit louder for my taste but they are still great sounding. I upgraded the bridge to a Fender high mass bridge to add more sustain and it improved the already great playability and tones tenfold. The neck is fast and the block in lays look great although it feels a bit thinner than a traditional 70's C profile. This bass plays amazing and is an awesome workhorse. It's comfortable but is a bit on the heavier side and could be a bit lighter. The wood colour is gorgeous and the fit and finish on this bass are surprising and definetely better than some of the higher end MIM Fender basses I've owned. The finish is abit thick for my liking but it doesn't take away too much from the tone but it could be a bit thinner but I'm being picky here. If you're looking for a Jazz Bass add this one to your shopping list. You won't be disappointed and it definetely can give most Fenders a serious run for their money at an affordable price.

Just bought this bass today at the Vancouver location. So so soooooo impressed, firstly, with the service and helpfulness of the bass guy. Secondly, the bass itself is beautiful...plays like melted butter and looks just as yummy. Thank you.

First and foremost I would like complement Hari at Calgary East for shipping this bass when the supplier had it back ordered until March. The bass was shipped from Edmonton the next day and in my hands by Saturday. I have had a great time jamming with this bass guitar and would recommend it to anyone who needs a little rhythm in their step.

I bought this bass a couple of years ago at another music store that is now out of business in Calgary and Edmonton. I thought I would give it a try because I loved the look of the wood. I replaced all of the hardware (Tuners and bridge with black Hipshot as well as the control plate) and installed EMG's. After it was setup this thing plays way better than my Fenders and sounds killer. Way less money spent as well. I wasn't expecting this to be my best bass but it turns out it is. No complaints at all.

these are good. got my 2012 used at l&m victoria. i liked the wood tone. it's heavy. i removed the plastic polymer coating with a heat gun and it resonates better and is a bit lighter. nothing wrong with density in a bass you will get deeper fundamentals. the bridge wasn't great so i swapped another cheap one and it doesn't break strings at the saddle now (i hit hard finger style) the tuners are not the best but they work. the frets are pretty good. couple of edges are going after 6 years. pickups are quite good. wiring is cheap and fails but simple to service. it's quiet when maintained. nut is cheap but works. put pencil graphite in the grooves neck plays fast. super growl off the fingerboard when you hit up at the neck joint. body wood has a nice thump and the guitar has a nice full tone. pluck at the bridge pickup and the articulation pops out nicely. you have to work on the setup. crank the truss rod to pull back from the string tension and lower the saddles. it sets up well eventually. these do not have the depth or refinement or sound quality that a vintage fender has, at all, but they're great value, and terrific to take anywhere. i've had mine on airplanes all the time in a gig bag. cheap good practice bass that surprises with its sound and playability.

I picked up this bass a few months ago. I tried it out in the store because it looked so good. It played as well as any US model in my opinion. I'm a guitarist but it looks so sweet in my music room. Squire is no longer a second rate name like I used to think. It looks killer and plays great.

This was the first bass I owned and it has always been reliable! The sound and quality is remarkable! I do have to say the wiring had some connectivity issues down the road (I've had it for about 6-7 years so it happens) and I had to re-solder it but other then that it is amazing. Little on the heavy side but that's what you get for solid maple!

I have a previous version with Duncan Designed pickups and it is one great Jazz Bass. It's solid, well built and has sustain for days! I can't comment on the pickups in the current version but if they are anything like the Duncan Designed ones they should sound great. If there is one drawback of this instrument is it is a heavy beast. If you need a light Bass to play, this might not be your best choice but can handle it, this is definitely worth adding to your collection!

I've owned my Vintage Modified Jazz bass for 2 years now, and I absolutely love it. Haven't done any modifications as I found the pickups it came with have a great amount of clarity, which is surprising for the price range this bass is listed. The neck is fast and comfortable and it fits for any style of playing. I'd say for the build quality, Squier has definitely improved over the years, and it's good to see that you're able to find a great quality bass for intermediate players and up. For anyone considering to buy an excellent sounding Jazz bass without busting the bank or compromising build quality, the newer Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe range Squiers are worth checking out.

I've been a die hard Fender fan since I was a kid, but I've never bought any Squiers before this bass. The tone is truly remarkable and I'd swear the pickups were active (but they're not) from the booming sound it pumps out. The only thing I don't like is that it's sort of on the heavy side, just like the 1976 Strat I used to own (must have been the 70s wood choice). But that's really a minor inconvenience for the awesome tone I can get from it. And it sustains like no bass I've played before. Only mods I made were adding flatwounds and lowering the action (it was way too high when I first got it). It's an attractive instrument and the finish is pretty decent except for the black lines outlining the fretboard that almost look like they were made with a Sharpie, but no big deal, I'm certainly not going to pay $1000+ for prettier lines that can only be noticed up close. I may change the bridge down the road but it's certainly not necessary. The open tuning pegs work well but the ratio might not be high enough for some people. Frets aren't exactly a work of art but are completely functional and the neck is VERY comfortable. Anyway, I would challenge anyone to do a blind sound/playability comparison with any Fender Jazz bass (even Custom Shop) to really get an idea of what a bargain this bass is.

Bought it in October 2015 in addition to my US Fender Deluxe PB with S1 button. Love this one! I rewired the pups with a push/pull pot for both serial and parallel tones. Man, this bass rocks !!!! Now I may want to sell my PB!

Dont be tricked by the branding on this thing! This is one of the best, if not the best Jazz bass I have ever played - in terms of sound, play-ability and looks... its just amazing. Factory set up was on the point, just lowered strings a tiny bit, and it was good to go. I played Signature Geddy Lee and Standard American Jazz both well over 1000Cad, and was just blown away on how much similar they sounded, if not better on the Squier's part. Picked it up right away! Unbelievable deal!

I owned an expensive 2006 fender USA p bass and couldn't love it. So I sold it. And went in search for a jazz bass. I played a number of fender usa and Mexican basses, but once I plugged this thing in, I couldn't believe my ears. It has the most incredible sound. Versatile, LOUD, amazing action from the factory, and those pickups are hot. I mean. Hot. Really. Hot. If you want a good bass, get this one. Don't bother spending 1600+ on a brand or country of manufacturing. This is the one. It's great for everything. Rock, blues, pop, the works. I will never have to upgrade. This is an absolute gem. You'll never hear anything as good as this.

This bass is my number 1 bass to use while gigging! My band doesn't even play jazz or anything like that, we play hard rock but this bass is my number one just because of the tone and sound. Highly recommend this bass for someone that wants a jazz bass but cant afford a fender because it play the same if not better that a fender.

I've been playing bass for many, many years. I was testing out amp heads one day, with this bass plugged in. I was completely gobsmacked at how this bass sounded. I bought it, brought it home and barely put it down. The only reason I gave it a 9 on quality was I upgraded the bridge to a Gotoh 201, and may have to upgrade the tuners. I first thought I would have to upgrade the pickups too, but not the case so far. It sounds every bit as good as the Geddy Lee USA Jazz I used to have. That's right, I sold the Geddy, put a bunch of money back into my account and play this Squier as my number one. I recommend this bass highly, don't be fooled by models that cost $1500 more.

I purchased this as my first bass. I've been a guitarist for 25 years and have finally decided to learn bass. This bass is very comfortable and has a nice weight to it. The sound is great, the neck is very comfortable, and I really like the open geared tuners. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
