I just bought this guitar and fell in love with it, I had a Martin x series, Fender, Yamaha, Takamine, Cort and now this Simon and Patrick, what a beautiful sound this produces and the craftsmanship is amazing and they say it gets better the more you play it , I believe this will be my guitar of choice, and I can't say enough about the staff at long and mcquade such helpful and nice people at Bedford location, keep up the great work.

I bought this guitar just before moving to Canada 15 yrs ago and have not regretted it. Best one I've ever owned. The only thing is the Quantum pickups back then were terrible and 3 times had to be replaced under warranty ( very frustrating). I eventually bought an LR Baggs I Beam and installed it, best upgrade ever. This sweet sounding guitar is my last.

I've been playing this guitar for about five years now, its the guitar I first learned on and I don't ever see myself going to another. I have tried out a couple of other guitars such as Martins and Gibsons at the guitar store and non of them have ever felt this playable. The guitar has the perfect sound for any playing style, perfect for fingerpicking as well as rocking out and filling a room with music. The best feature would have to be the neck, it's got a small profile that fits perfectly in the hand. If your are looking for a new acoustic guitar look no further and go get yourself one of these guitars, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED

This was my very first guitar. I'm still in love with the warm, balanced tones it puts out. Amazing value in this one and it holds up well against brands like Martin and Gibson. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone, but especially those who are beginners that want a high-end sounding acoustic without paying a high-end price tag.

That's right. Unable to have a guitar for a few years while travelling and then started shopping, at L&M, trying out some Martins when I hear an employee playing a used Songsmith he was putting out. I was immediately struck by the sound and figured it must out of my price range. To my surprise, he told a guy just traded it in and they were selling it for $80. I strummed it twice and said "Sold" Best sounding guitar I've ever owned and sounds and holds up better than my Martin D35 which sells for 6 times the price. Don't hesitate to buy this guitar.

I've played acoustic guitar for over 30 years and by chance came across my songsmith in a hock shop! The instant I strummed it I knew it was a gem. Have played it regularly since, including live gigs (with a pick up inserted) and at parties and fires. Can't beat the sound and it's only gotten better with age.

I purchased this non-cutaway Songsmith dreadnought yesterday after comparing it with a handful of other instruments roughly in the same price range. The only guitar that sounded as good to my ear was a Yamaha acoustic/electric (the exact model escapes me)that was about 150 dollars more dear.As I have no current interest in having to compete with a band sound, the added electronics struck me as an unwarranted expense. My main concern this time was in finding the best sounding guitar I could for under 500 Canadian dollars and I feel like I've succeeded in spades. This box has a nice tight crisp resonance with a delicate and musical high end as apposed to brittle and sharp like many new instruments can sound and feel.A little more low end would really compliment the overall sound but at this price I can't complain. The slender satin finished neck has a sensual feel to it being comfortably wide and easy to skip up and down. The 16' radius and medium sized fret wire show no signs of fret buzz (whereas the pricier Yamaha needed adjustment and was buzzing noticeably.) By the way the (S&P) frets could stand to be dressed but in this range it's rare to find a model with rounded off fret ends. Anyway I am very pleased with this purchase. As someone who has been playing for almost 5 decades I can honestly say I have never found a better deal, and I am continually amazed at the quality of the instruments coming off the line now for relatively very low prices.

I got this guitar last year for Xmas and it is truly amazing. It feels really nice. The sound quality is really really good. The price is a steal! And it doesn't look half bad either! This guitar is perfect for me cause I don't have to worry about scratching it, or taking care of it because it is so affordable. Not that I don't take care of it or anything. Just nice if I do drop it by accident, I don't have to have a heart attack. It is durrable. The sound of this guitar really does sound good though. Overall this is an amazing guitar.

Been playing for years, recently had my normal gigging Martin crushed when someone backended me on icy roads, totalling my trunk, which of course, my Martin was in. Bought this in a panicked rush, because the neck felt great and the tonality shocked me. The price was right, considering I was running late to the gig, and now needed a cab. I have not put this guitar down since. Working on aging it now, for no other reason than to let the passion of the wood shine. Try this one out folks, you won't be dissappointed.

Left it out in the rain for a night and it still sounds the same. Great for packing your socks in when you run out of room in your suitcase. There's been a dead fly stuck inside it for at least two years but it doesn't affect the sound quality. All in all a great guitar.

I went into L&M's acoustic room on Bloor quite prepared to pay $1000, played every guitar I could, and walked out with this, which simply sounded the best. I put a Baggs M1A on it and it's been my main gigging and recording guitar now for almost five years. I now have a Martin 000-15m, which plays a little better and sounds different, but the Songsmith genuinely holds its own with the Martin at less than 1/4 the price. And I still gig the Songsmith because it's indestructible, unlike the Martin!

This guitar is beautiful in every way. It's mellow and sweet and a joy to play. The strings sit on the fretboard. It's Canadian made. It's so nice to look at, as well. Elegant headstock. Tuners are high quality. Why would you consider a guitar made half-way around the world, sent over on a container ship, when you can get a Canadian made gem like this? Watch the youtube video of the Godin factory and you'll be sold. Best deal in the acoustic guitar world. Just buy it.

Love it. Have had it for a couple months now. I'm a beginner and just learning and it feels and sounds awesome. Holds tune great. I practice/play maybe 1-2hrs day and tune about once a week and it's barely out, if at all. I keep it in the case humidified, and need to fill up the humidifier every week. The wood on this guitar smells awesome, every time I open the case. I've never owned a more expensive guitar but this one feels like quality to me. It's rock solid and true and the sunburst looks great to me. The finish is slightly matte which I think makes it feel and look even more solid (woody vs plasticy). I've read the reviews where some have changed the nut and strings etc, but I'm not sure I can hear those subtle differences yet. I think it sounds and plays great as is! Once again people at L&M were fantastic!

I want to address this to anyone reading these reviews to make up their mind on buying a Songsmith. First off they are NOT just a beginner guitar. Yes they are quite inexpensive but that doesn't mean lower quality. I have played for 45 years and the Songsmith dread is my only acoustic. I have had the usual variety of Martins and Larrivees over the years and lost them to mostly bad decisions. This is a guitar I will gig with without any qualms at all. There is no shame in owning a truly great Canadian made guitar. So please don't dismiss them because of cost or lamination. Trust your ears.

I went to Long and McQuade in Fredericton NB looking for a good acoustic guitar, I planned on spending between $800-$1000....I had seen this pretty little blue burst Simon my previous visit but hadn't played it, it reminded me a lot of a Norman I owned years ago...so I tried out a Taylor, a Martin, and a couple other high end guitars, my wife actually insisted I try the "pretty blue" Simon & Patrick, and when I did I was very surprised, then shocked when I looked at the price, I had to ask if it was a used guitar!! I tried the high end guitars again, I couldn't believe how very little difference there was between this $320 guitar and a $1000 Taylor or Martin, of course there were some subtle differences but none that warranted spending the extra $700....I bought this guitar and love it, and had enough in my budget left to buy a set of electric drums lol....Best guitar I have owned to date, been playing for over 20 years, and its one of the nicest I've ever played even, well.at least for under $1000. Try one, you won't be dissapointed.

I ordered online. One I got is unplayable. Overall action is too high and at the nut its ridiculously high. I can't casually play this thing without always having to concentrate on pressing down hard. Really hurts fingers. At this price point, its not worth taking to a luthier. I'm taking it back tomorrow and maybe try the Woodland models.

This has got to be the best sounding guitar in its price range and even above its price range. It is so clear and crisp without losing all the low end. I was looking for a cheaper guitar because I did not want to take my $3000 Martin to the campfire… Tried many guitars before trying this one. Wow is all I can say!!! It also seems very durable for camping. Give this one a try!!! See Tom at L&M South Edmonton!!! Tell him Keith sent you!!!

With its smallish neck and slightly shorter than 25" scale, this guitar is an excellent choice for younger players or those with smaller hands. This guitar is really a 10 overall. I regularly choose it over my Larrivee L03 and even my Martin D28, which are both excellent instruments. It just sounds so sweet and clear, and the sustain and harmonic overtones are amazing. I do think this particular S&P guitar is a bit exceptional; I've not heard another that sounds this good, though they all sound good. S&P has spent the money were it counts: tone. Highly recommended!

This is the type of guitar that makes the player sound better. At least for me...I truly feel that I sound better on this gem. I think some of the wood may come from BC, I know a friend who brokered wood to Godin several years ago. Boy, did I not know how well they perform. Sustain, tone, volume, dynamics, harmonics, tuning, action...this is my favorite acoustic guitar ever, hands down.

Been playing for 16 years, and have played many guitars of varying quality. This little gem stacks up against the very best of them, and considering the price point it may be the best of them all for overall quality/value. If you want a first (or tenth) guitar this should be it, no question at all. Great quality, even beter tone.

I have been playing guitar for 43 years and have owned dozens of instruments. Acoustic guitars I currently own include a '71 Martin D28 and a Larrivee L-03, as well as a LaPatrie classical. I'm absolutely floored at the sound that comes out of this little, plain looking guitar. This was definitely the sweetest one hanging on the wall that day at the Burlington L&M, but I must say I've been consistently impressed by these Godin/Simon & Patrick acoustics wherever I find them. I initially picked an S&P off the wall just out of curiosity. I'm usually interested mainly in the Gibsons, Martins, Taylors, etc. When I first casually strummed this little guitar I was immediately impressed by the long sustain and the clarity of the notes. Then I noticed the beautiful balance between the lows, mids and highs, the way a single string would cause harmonics to bloom even when all other strings were muted. Intonation was remarkably accurate, workmanship flawless, the neck a pleasure to play. SOLD. I'm going to keep cruising the S&P section in any music store that carries them until I find another one of these gems. And another, and another.

Rented one for a month for a second guitar. This thing is an absolute blast to play with the short scale. Less string pressure required so easier on the fingers and faster picking. The neck has a profile that just fits - nicely shaped and fits my shorter fingers. Sound - for this price - sweet. I can't put this guitar down - finger style - pick - it does it all.

The sound of my 12 string version was much richer than the 4 other 12 string guitars I tried out at L&M today. I bought it, a steal at $415. Magical sound.

I got the Songsmith dreadnought (no pickup). Really great value and sound. The detailed craftsmenship is noticeable, even though it is no high-end guitar. Solid spuce top, synthetic bone nut and saddle (when you get lower end guitars you often need to swap out their plastic nut and saddle, e.x. Yamahas) and the lacquer finish really let this guitar sing. The tone is so clear because of the thin finish. Looking forward to hearing how this guitar changes sound as it ages over time. The finish also allows for a very smooth neck. You often can't find all these features at this price point. I'm guessing they can save costs because the woods are locally sourced and the guitars are made in the country. It also helps that the factory strings and the out-of-the-box setup are pretty decent.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
