More powerful than a locomotive! This square-neck version of the 1930s Gretsch classic has the tone and punch that pro players demand. The vital feature of all Gretsch resonator guitars is the all-new Gretsch "Ampli-Sonic" diaphragm (resonator cone), which is hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99 percent pure aluminium and yields an impressive quality and volume of tone

Gretsch has been doing a great job with their Roots Series (well their resonators anyway). My only complaint with this guitar is probably my fault - I decided to tune it to open C (C,G,C,E,G,C) - is that the cone was rattling, mainly from the middle C and E strings. L&M put a gasket in place and this seems to have fixed the problem. Why this is an issue is probably because the spider bridge wasn't loading the cone enough with the low C tuning. The guitar has a great voice, though, and enough bass response to handle the low frequencies with aplomb. Even when the cone was distorting the sound, I would still write four or five things on it. Pretty inspirational for under $500!
