The critically acclaimed DSL40C shares most of the same great features as the DSL100H: footswitchable classic/ultra gain channels, rear panel pentode/triode switch (40 Watt down to 20 Watt) and a rear panel series FX loop. Unlike the JCM2000 DSL amps, the DSL40C features footswitchable digital reverb channel change and reverb on/off footswitch is supplied. The popularity of the DSL40C lies in its feature-packed capability, versatility, its volume-to-size ratio, and its value for money. The DSL40C is ultra portable, ultra loud, and is a keen reminder of Marshall's legacy The DSL40C is loaded with a single 12 40 Watt Celestion Seventy 80 speaker.

Probably the best all tube amp in this price range. I went with the 40 watt because the price increase compared to the others in the line was pretty minimal. Even on half power this has way more power than you'd ever need. The reverb is very subtle. Even maxed out you can barely tell it's on. It does take effects pretty well through the FX loop, not sure the same can be said for the other models without the loop. The channels are nice but the crunch mode on the first channel doesn't quite get crunchy enough. There's a mod out there that has something to do with the bright cap that apparently can remedy this though I haven't done it myself. The only real problem with this amp is the stock speaker - it's just too shrill and lacks low end for this amp. Switch it out for a creamback or a v30 and you're good to go.

This is the absolute best sounding Amp I have ever played through currently running it with my 2017 Gibson SG standard with the 57 humbuckers and it sounds absolutely incredible. Loved all the features, a bit heavy but who cares, its got such a classic and heavy sound.

The only issue I've had with this amp is the lack of bottom end and lousy reverb. The easy solution however is running an mfx pedal with EQ in the effects loop for the extra bass and that works great. It's well built, very sturdy but getting pretty expensive. I paid $699 a couple years ago. That Canadian dollar :(

I was looking to downsize from big amps and settled on this combo to save my back. The reverb isn't great and it sounds a little brittle in the gain channel. Its like a lower wattage JCM 2000 without all the power.I changed the speaker like another reviewer here to a Celestion Vintage 30 and it sounds fatter and warmer. Great idea! I tried the Slash combo too, just not as much gain but it oddly had the V30 speaker too. Slash was onto something. Had the DSL 40 for weeks now and can't be happier. Its quiet enough for home yet powerful enough to play in a band.

I purchased this amp in winnipeg and I love it! Definetly my favourite combo amp that I've played. I jut wish it had a little bit better reverb setting... It's not bad but I've had better reverb built in on other amps

I wanted something portable, yet not heavy and loud like a head and cab, and quiet enough for practice with its half power switch. I tried the DSL15 first as its even smaller but not very Marshall sounding so I upgraded to this one. Good price tooassembled in Vietnam without spending an arm and a leg on one of the British made combos in Marshall's top line.Just wish the reverb was better.

Excellent amp. Versatile from clean to heavy gain. Reverb is a little weak but I use pedals anyways. Having an FX loop is a must (IMO) and this has it but the 15w Combo does not.

After giving up big amps with cabs and all that volume but still loving Marshall more than any other amp tone, I settled on this combo. Although the reverb is not great, the overall tone with EL34s and an upgraded Celestion V30 speaker has perhaps given me the best amp I have ever owned. The half power switch is a blessing in a condo.I have had JCM 800s, Valvestate combo, Peavey 5150s, Line 6, Fender Deluxe and Super Reverbs and 1974 Marshall Plexis and this amp measures up amazingly well for gain and overall tone, just not so good for pristine Fender clean.

I paid almost twice that to get a DSL50 head about 15 years ago. Sure, that one was built in the UK and this is built in Vietnam though. Will it last as long? Time will tell. For years I've been wanting the tone of my old DSL50 (stolen a few years ago) in combo form for smaller gigs. They delivered! And they fixed the "Deep" switch that gave you an option between too much and too little, now it's a Resonance control. And the included footswitch now controls reverb too (but dear lord is it subtle). Either way, got this for 699$, playing a Gibson SGJ into it. Fully giggable rig, Gibson/Marshall classic tone, for less than 1300$ total. Love it.

A very versatile amp with some monster tube amp tones. The only thing it really lacks is the ability to footswitch inside of the two channels (between clean/crunch and lead1/lead 2). The Celestion 70/80 speaker is OK, swap it out for a V30 if you really want to upgrade the tone. All in all a great amp that can be used for gigging.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
