I have played many acoustics and this Martin has qualities that other manufacturers have left behind after WWII, i.e. tuned scalloped bracing, slightly underbuilt, etc. Other modern guitars will not be as sensitive as this tone monster to humidity and temperature, but they will not even come close to the open full range sound. If you get one, mind to humidify it with a leak proof humidifier like the Oasis and keep it safely in its case when not being played. It is worth every penny.

I've owned a 1994 Custom 15, the forerunner of the HD-28V. so it's 22 yrs old. Mine has regular "V" neck, a little deeper the Modified "V" on the HD-28V. The early necks were hand carved. I love the HD-28V. It just gets better with time, and playing it.

I spent a year and a half looking for the perfect acoustic guitar for myself and my Martin HD28V is the nicest acoustic guitar I have ever played! It is amazingly well balanced for a dreadnought and sounds beautiful and articulate whether finger picking or strumming. It has an astounding amount of overtones and has that dry, woodsy tone that sets it (in my opinion) far above any other guitar in its price range. It sounds beautiful no matter how quiet or loud you play and it records unbelievably well!

I have been playing guitar almost 50 years and this is my dream guitar purchase. Not cheap but the only guitar you'll ever want after you take it for a test drive. Like others have said the beautiful tone high and lows are clear and loud but not annoyingly so. Be aware this guitar is sensitive to humidity so keep it in the case when not in use with one of those humidity gadgets they sell at the store to go inside your guitar keep your guitar from drying out and getting damaged. Also keep your guitar away from a heat source or excessive dampness. Martin suggests ideal humidity levels should be between 45 and 55. Get yourself a hygrometer and you can measure the humidity in the room where you store your guitar. And its better if the room temperature is in the 70's. If your room is really dry as many are in the winter then I guess a humidifier may be helpful. You just have monitor the humidity. Its a bit of hazzle but worth it for this fine hi quality instrument perhaps the best guitar you will ever own. The staff were very helpful as always at the downtown Toronto store. Special thanks to Jeremy and Tim.

I love my HD-28V. The guitar seems to sound better and better with each passing day. It's tough to say how much of that is just personal perception but there is no doubt this thing is a true tone monster. I wasn't sure if I would like the modified V neck but I'm finding that I'm loving it more and more each time I play the guitar. It's quite comfortable. This is a killer guitar. I tired all of the top end guitars that were avail. at L&M and this one was hands down the best. I've owned a custom shop gibson acoustic in the past and it doesn't come close to this Martin. Buy it!!!

i have been playing for 20+ years and from the moment i strummed a chord on this guitar, I know that this is the only guitar i will ever need. this guitar is all about tone and volume. everytime I play this guitar the experience is magical. the price is right for what this guitar has to offer. one can spend a lifetime finding the "right sound" but do yourself a favor and try the Martin HD-28V as part of your research. Martin guitars come with a limited lifetime warranty to original owner only if purchased from authorized distributor. Also long and mcquade offers free setup within one year of purchase.

I hate to be a lone dissenter but I just wasn't impressed. The ones I tried all had dead notes/wolf tones all over the place. That's a deal breaker for me. I compared my HD-28 and there really wasn't a comparison. You don't always get what you pay for IMO.

Bought this as my first guitar in September 2011 - Happy Birthday to me ;-). As I see it, if you like how a guitar sounds you'll WANT to learn to play. And I love the sound. The build quality is excellent.

It doesn't really get any better than this. Hugh fat tone with thumping bass and super clear highs. Beautiful in its visual simplicity. No fancy stuff...just spectacular tone and craftsmanship. No wonder its considered Martin's best sounding guitar by many players. It is honestly the best tone I have heard yet in a guitar and I have compared it to some of the best.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
