So I was interested in this mic mount to clean up the space in front of the amp and avoid hitting the mic by accident on stage as it happened to me in the past.
So this seems to be a good idea but after trying it, I discovered several design flaws:
- I wish the angled tube can be moved freely in all directions. I use a Sennheiser 906 that needs to be positioned flush to the surface of the amp and this mount didn't allow this easily. I solved this by attaching a joint that allows me to move the angled tube move freely, however it's not ideal because it's hard to keep it tight so it doesn't move after.
- This is the main design flaw. The surfaces that attach the edges of the cabinet have a "j-shaped crease" to attach to edges with small width. My cabinet has a bigger width and the edge doesn't fit in the "j crease" so the mic mount is using only a small portion of the surface. Now the worst part was that at the end of the "j" there is a sharp pointy corner that cut into my amp tolex making a hole. This was sad considering I was trying to keep my amp in great shape and this poor design damaged it. So I thought to put a sort of foam around to protect the amp from these sharp edges.
- The spring that holds its a little bit hard, so you have to be careful when attaching it because it could snap on your fingers and this makes up and down adjustments harder.
I think the item is overpriced considering the lack of flexibility and design flaws it has but it seems durable though. If you use a type of flat mic like Sennheiser 906 this won't work unless you do some customization and make sure you wrap the surfaces that touch the amp or you will end up with nasty holes.
