18-Channel, 12-Bus Digital Mixer for iPad/Android Tablets with 16 Programmable MIDAS Preamps, Integrated Wifi Module and Multi-Channel USB Audio Interface

The revolutionary XR18 is a powerhouse 18 input/12 bus portable mixer housed in an extremely sturdy stage box design for use with iPad and Android tablets. It is ideally suited for both live and studio applications, thanks to its 16 award-winning MIDAS-designed mic preamps, convenient integrated Wifi module for wireless control and a lightning-fast, bidirectional USB Audio Interface.

Built-In Tri-Mode Wifi Router

Designed for the ultimate in mobility, the XR18 comes with an integrated Wifi module for direct control of your mixers functions without the need to setup and configure an external router. The XR18 gives you the freedom to focus on your mix, while allowing you to move about the venue to experience what every part of the audience is hearing. Plus you can adjust live monitor wedges from the artists perspective or better yet, let them mix their own IEMs and floor monitors via their own tablets.

Recording Simplified

The incredibly fast and comprehensive 18 x 18 channel, bi-directional USB interface makes the XR18 an amazingly powerful digital mixing solution for recording directly to your iPad or PC. Dial in the perfect monitoring mix with effects and zero-latency, while sending up to 16 microphone signals and the keyboard player's MIDI notes to your DAW for recording. It's never been easier to record stunning tracks with exceptional clarity.

Revolutionary Auto-Mixing

A major first for compact audio mixers, Behringer's revolutionary X AIR Gain Sharing technology can easily manage fully automated mixes with up to 16 live microphones. Based on the legendary Dan Dugan automix system, the XR18's gain sharing paradigm automatically controls the levels of all selected microphones in real time, without any gating artifacts or noise modulation.

This function dramatically reduces the typical feedback, studio noise and comb filtering challenges that can occur when two, or more mics are in close proximity of each another. X AIR Gain Sharing technology provides a consistent system gain structure, even when multiple speakers are talking at the same time.

4 Onboard X32 Effects Engines

Equipped with the very same FX engines as the now legendary X32 Digital Mixing Console, the onboard virtual FX Rack provides access to four true-stereo (8 mono), multi-effects processors including delay, chorus, dynamics plus the XR18 can run production-quality, true-stereo reverbs concurrently with 31-band EQ on the main and aux buses, all without the need for any additional hardware.

Hi, I got this mixer just last week and put it to work just 2 days later for a house concert. This was a very simple setup, but it worked flawlessly out of the box. I ran the whole show off my Samsung S8 connected to the XR18 wifi hotspot with no issues. Managing it from my phone screen and the app was super easy, and the built in eq presets sounded great. Super pleased with this unit so far.

I had been renting an X32 Rack from L&M, but decided to try the XR-18 on a few gigs mainly because of its much smaller size and portability. Of course it is not as nearly fully-featured as the X32 but I figured for these gigs I could get by without matrixes and bus dynamics etc in favour of portability. 2 months later I agree fully with all of what the other reviewers have said about this very capable little mixer. The XR-18 worked so well on the first project and tests that I felt confident flying out with it on the next. It’s ridiculously small. It easily fit into a regular suitcase-size Nanuk case with my other gear - and performed flawlessly. I have used it onstage dropsnake-style, as FOH installed easily beside the house mixer, and even as an onstage USB interface and mixer for an act that does a fair bit of live recording and building their sound using Ableton. I read the warnings not to use the built-in wifi so I used my own wifi router (note: place router at least several feet from the mixer or you may get audible artifacts). I also ran Ethernet cable when possible. I was able to control channel and bus faders and mutes with my MIDI controller via MIDI-over-LAN - which really improves the mixing experience - using the iPad and Mac apps for adjusting EQ and FX etc. A Mac connected via USB at either end is required to make this work, but that was my typical setup. Also required is a MIDI controller that can assign MIDI channel independently for each button/knob/fader. Behringer also markets a hardware controller for their X mixers but I have not tried it out. One of the projects was theatrical and as well as mixing wireless mics etc we were running extensive sound cues from QLab software. The mixer is so portable... I just backpacked it to rehearsals and while putting the show together was able to program all my mic and monitor mutes/unmutes as QLab cues. Running the show - wherever we went (with the XR-18) - was an automated piece of cake - mixing levels on the fly while QLab handled all the muting on the XR. And the mixer functioned as a multichannel USB interface for QLab while mixing several analog inputs also. So great. I did have the opportunity to compare built-in reverbs with the latest Presonus 24ch mixer - which was FOH at one venue. The XR-18 easily won favour in that contest. I’m actually not a big fan of Begringer, historically, but their digital mixers have been steadily winning me over. I agree with the reviewer above that it may not be ideal for a band that just wants to plug in, fade up, and go. There are lots of analog mixers better suited. But for those prepared to learn how this mixer works and get comfortable with the setup and functioning if the mixer, the XR-18 has many many many times the capability of a typical 16ch analog mixer. I did not buy it. I recommend it... and I would own it... but I’m never sure what I’ll need for upcoming gigs - and as long as Long & McQuade exists, I can pick and choose. BTW - an enormous THANK YOU to Long & McQuade for the access provided to so much great gear over the years by way of their amazing rental department.

For the price, this unit is absolutely amazing. You get 16 Midas Preamps, an onboard equalizer, (just as good as any other high quality digital mixer's eq.) studio FX with presets, and so much more. The USB interface is great, and the routing options for recording your mix is very handy (ie sending audio from the mixer post eq, or sending the main mix only, etc). The built in wifi is great because as a drummer I like to control my mix from behind the kit. The XR18 makes mixing from anywhere very easy with their built in wifi and the X AIR app. Behringer has a whole page of downloads as well, including drivers and unit-controlling software. I've worked with Audio interfaces before, but if your looking for a one-and-done deal for a mixer and an interface that won't empty your wallet, look no further! This is the unit for any small band or home studio!

HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST TO BUY 18 PREAMPS, EQS, GATES, COMPRESSORS AND 4 STEREO EFFECTS THAT YOU CAN CONTROL WITH YOUR IPAD? OH AND ALSO AN 18 CHANNEL INTERFACE? IT IS MORE THAN THE XR18 TO SAY THE LEAST. RIDICULOUS VALUE AND QUALITY. EXCEPT THE WIFI NETWORK WOULD BE COOL IF IT COULD DO 5GHZ BUT THEY EVEN GIVE YOU OPTIONS TO WORK AROUND THAT. ALL CAPS GREAT PRODUCT.

There are lots of options for mixers and interfaces. There aren't many options for something that works as both. I would not have thought that it would have performed well as an interface, but the latency is the same as my Apollo and Apogee interfaces - almost non-existent. This is not an easy-to-use device and I wouldn't recommend it to a novice unless they are willing to open the manual. For those out there who feel confident or put the time in, I think you're in for a real treat. The sound quality is right up there with interfaces and digital mixers for thousands more. If I had to start over from a fire or robbery, this is one of the first pieces I'd replace.

Cool device when it works. Make sure someone in the band knows what they're doing. We've lost a lot of precious rehearsal time to screwing around with the settings. A regular board from Yamaha or Mackie is so much simpler and easier to work with.

The first show I used it on was a variety show with 8 different acts followed by a finale with all performing together. This mixer made it so easy and seamless with snapshots of each act called up as needed. The X-Air app is well laid out and intuitive. Effects, compression, gates, eq, etc. all sound great and easy to use with some great pre-sets if needed. WiFi connection was solid. My only complaints, which take 1 point off for quality: 1) Channels 1 & 2 are noisy HiZ inputs - my preference is to use DI boxes as needed vs. having the noise on the channel. 2) Adjusting input gain causes square wave type click noises - adjustments during performance had to be avoided. Note: All other adjustment post input gain was fine. Overall the value can't be beat.

I was fascinated by the size and portability of this device, as well as the great reviews that it was getting, so I purchased one from my local L&M. I've been pretty wary of Behringer products in the past, normally they were of inferior build quality or noisy I found that the iPad interface was easy to use, the sound was excellent, and the effects and eq were tremendous. it really is tremendous value. I really wanted this to be the final mixer that I needed. However, less than 2 weeks after I had it home, I was just listening to some tunes through it, and it started making an awful snapping noise about 4 times per second. I returned it immediately, as it is useless if you can't depend on it. So.. I dropped the extra coin and got the Allen & Heath QU-16. I'm much happier with it, even though it's physically much larger. (Although I'm looking at the new QU-SB!)

I've had the XR18 for over a year and after taking a couple of weeks to familiarize myself with all the features and functions, I have used it on almost every gig I've done since. This unit has replaced a huge rack of gear, lightening the load on my back and my van. Not only that, but my various acts have never sounded better. The pre-amps sound great - very transparent - and the EQ, compressor / limiter, and gate available to each channel has made tailoring every voice or instrument much more effective. The effects - and there are dozens to choose from - are excellent and you can use them for aux sends or inserts. Also of note is the IO, with 6 auxes + LR + headphones, each assignable how you please and each with its own EQ. I highly recommend an XR mixer to everyone who wants to modernize their setup as well as trim down the amount of gear they carry. Finally, you can leave that snake at home! The one caveat I must mention is that for peace of mind and greater stability, I suggest getting an external dual-band router and using the 5GHz spectrum for controlling your mixer.

If you are looking for an IPad controlled mixer with tons of features, you should not overlook the X series of Behringer. The small format and IPad control allow you to leave the mixer on the stage and control FOH from the IPad. Built in Wifi worked quite well at our first gig. RTA on the output EQs is very useful. Overall the sound from the preamps is more than acceptable. The UI on the PC/Mac/IPad does have some differences, but you do have a lot of options. Effects sound nice, not overwhelming. Build quality is acceptable as well, XLR inputs are plastic though. Have not tried the USB interface yet. It's not a studio quality interface but will do quite well for recording live shows and rehearsals. You will only be disappointed if you don't do your research first. It delivers on what it promises.
