The TASCAM DP-24SD - A Complete Digital Studio

The DP-24SD Digital Portastudio is a 24-track workstation, allowing eight tracks of simultaneous recording. The built-in mixer includes everything you need for a professional-sounding mix, from EQ and reverb to amp simulation and multi-band mastering effects. The Digital Portastudio series creates finished productions without the need for a computer, instead using a simple-to-use control surface to keep you creative.

For clear display of your mix, the DP-24SD has a large color LCD displaying tracks, meters, and effects parameters. A set of 12 encoders control EQ, effects sends, and panning. Built-in effects include compression, guitar amp modeling, delay, reverb, with a total of 10 effects processors available during mixing.

Eight XLR mic/line inputs each provide phantom power for condenser microphones, switchable in banks of four. One input includes an instrument-level impedence switch for direct input recording of guitar or bass. Balanced monitor outputs and effects sends are also provided on the rear panel. A USB output allows tracks and mixes recorded to your SD card to be transferred to a computer for CD burning or sharing online.

For a complete music production on a desktop, there's no simpler choice than the DP-24SD.

Q & A

Question: Can the DP24SD be used as a direct recording interface with a computer and DAW?
- asked on Feb 18, 2024
Answer: Tracks can be transferred via USB or the memory card, but this unit is not designed to be a real time interface.

It is meant to stand alone.

It is possible to transfer recorded tracks into a DAW for mixing.

I bought one to improve quality of church choir recordings and have been impressed through several months of improving sound as I learned how better to take advantage of the features of this piece of gear. A little steep on the learning curve but if you look for assistance on youtube you will find excellent info on how to get the most out of it. Op manual is of cursory value only.

This is the coolest machine ever invented , I think anyways. I used to record with just a zoom handy recorder for years. Then I tried a focusrite interface , I really couldn't wrap my head around the interface , would be alright I guess if everyone could own a Mac PC , too much computer crap in my opinion. This just lets you be creative as a musician because it's so hands on . My recordings are just so clear and articulate , took me about a week to get comfortable with it , I have no previous experience with such a machine. Very happy with it hope it lasts for years to come.

I purchased mine 2.5 years ago. I use it as a personal recorder for my own songs, and recording small bands. The menu is easy to navigate. Getting a recording is a simple process, much more simple than my Pro Tools DAW. That is my favourite thing about this unit, it's simplicity, and ease to get things rolling. The mic pres are plain, nothing special, but nothing wrong with them either. The on board effects, I pass on. Could be better. When I mixdown, I run it out my DAW, and through a vintage mixer, to get some of that analogue goodness. I don't use it for its all-in-one mixdown and mastering capabilities, I do use it to record everything I need, especially in a mobile situation. I then transfer my tracks via USB to my DAW, and mix/master from there. Highly recommend, especially for the price.

Best thing I have ever purchased. all the features you need and portable.. I can take it with me to record tracks outside my studio. VERY easy to use and create dynamic recording. If you learn this machine in and out it will do everything you need it to do. Watch Phil Tipping on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch'v=ev_w-qP7IWk -- A brilliant series on how to use this machine. It doubles up as an AWESOME live mixer. I recommend for all home studio recorders and someone looking to get started.

I purchased this recorder for my home studio and I have to say, it is awesome. It has a lot more features than I will use in my studio but is very easy to setup and use. Well worth the money, in fact at the time of purchase it was $150 below what Axe Music was charging. If you want more info you can download the manual from the Tascam site. One other thing I should mention, built very solid - much better than I originally expected.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
