Hard bases run the full length of the equipment case and up the ends to allow for easy access up curbs and stairs. We picked up this bag about 3-4 years ago to store and transport a small PA system on a Canadian Navy Warship. I can say that the zippers did not rust (although extended exposure to a marine environment hasn't made the zippers a little sticky). The fact that it has wheels makes it easy for one person to wheel it to where we need it, set it up, and we can store 2 speakers with stands, a mic stand, and all cables required for the system. We were playing definitely get another one when this one needs replacing.
