I'm the TD at a small, active live music venue on BC's Sunshine Coast.
I was looking for a vocal mike for special applications that was a step up from the 58 Beta (a great every day mike) without getting into the expense of the hand held condensers.
I couldn't be happier with the Encore 200. It takes some careful EQ, as it does have, at least in our room, a mud spot in the lower mids. Get that out of there and you have a great vocal mike - sensitive, very good dynamic and frequency range and lots of air, almost like a condenser.
We do have an SM86 condenser in our drawer, also for special uses. The Blue is for solo vocalists who may not be ready for the completely unforgiving nature of a higher end condenser and for multiple uses in our monthly coffee house. Our 58 Betas are used now for multiple vocal band applications.
Artists who have used the Blue love it.
It is a step up from the Beta 58, which is a big accomplishment for Blue. It's hard to take on the industry workhorse.
If you are looking and thinking about a microphone buy, as long as you have ready access to 48 volt phantom, this is a very good microphone at a very good price.
I would add another to our inventory in heartbeat. Who knows, maybe next year's buy...
