I bought this 12 string new in 2014, and I have not been disappointed at all over these past six years! Lucky for me that I already owned a D28, because I would have not been able to justify going out to buy a pricier Martin if I had owned this fabulous 12 string first. At about a quarter of the dollar value of a D28, this D12X1AE offers superb sound and playability for the price. It was also autographed by Gordon Lightfoot in 2019, so I am certain that its value has increased even more!

I've struggled with a few acoustic guitars moving from Ontario to Alberta as the large change in humidity warped the neck on one of my favourite guitars. I chose this 12 string primarily for it's price and I figured something made of laminates in Mexico wasn't really going to perform well. I was never so wrong - the guitar sounds incredible. Deep and rich even with the original strings and when I tuned it up, the intonation was nearly perfect. The neck is laminate, the back and sides are some high-pressure lamination but it still plays like a Martin and sounds amazing. I strung it with my favourite lights and tuned it down 1/2 a step and was amazed at how this guitar plays and sounds. I can tune it and throw a capo up on the 7th fret and not have to retune. The dry air of Alberta doesn't seem to have any effect on the structure or neck of the guitar at all. A bargain at this price.

I just got this today from the Ottawa store. Thank you Andrew for the excellent help. I know I'm in the honeymoon phase for sure but I can't put it down since I got home. The quality is excellent the guitar is very solid and well built. Everything you would expect from a Martin. The sound is excellent!! Fishman electronics are very good!! As of day 1 - I fully recommend this!

I've owned various 12 string acoustic guitars over the years, always hoping `this would be the one'. My last one was a great sounding one, nice touch etc until I tried the 12 DX...all I could say was WOW ! It is by far the smoothest, best sounding guitar I've ever come across. A great price and I've been using it at rehearsals and shows. It is simply terrific, commanding a lot of `ooh's and ah's from band-members and audience alike. I don't regret buying this one whatsoever !

I always loved the idea of the 12 string guitar but for years could not find one that played easily and sounded the way I thought it should. Mind you, there may have been a few really high-enders out there that I could not afford, but that aside my search ended in futility. Then along came Martin with the D12X built to exacting standards, using precision modern computerized technology and alternate materials. This could not have happened even 20 years ago. You cannot get a better 12 string anywhere near this price range. And yes, it is built like a rock and sounds heavenly!

I played a few of them in the store and I had to get this one. I chose it because of it's smooth and balanced tones, and it is very comfortable to play.

I'm primarily an electric guitar player, but wanted one "really nice" acoustic, preferably 12 string. Did some research, spoke to the L&M acoustic guru, and ended up with this. It's out of this world, (at just about ANY price, but at this price...a bargain). Sounds amazing at everything it does from sitting on the porch "noodling", to pounding it through my 50 watt Traynor tube amp. As an added advantage...it's no "princess"...i.e. it's built like a truck and can take a bit of whack without being marked too badly. GET ONE!!

It wasn't in stock, but a store transfer took only two days (wow!). Not a pretty guitar, but it plays and sounds great. Nothing better at this price point, and it has a Fishman pickup too!

purchased my Martin 2 months ago. I have several other guitars but this one quickly became my favorite. A real pleasure to play. My next guitar will be a Martin.

It is the only true way I can describe this guitar. I have owned 10 other 12 strings (Acoustic) in my time. Framus, Guild, Epiphone, Takamine, Yamaki, Ovation, Simon&Patrick and Larrivee but overall, this inexpensive Martin beats every one of them! Hands Up or Down!

I once played this in the store & decided the next day I wanted it. Got back to the store & it was sold. I had to wait 3 months for an order to get another one in. I would suggest you get to whatever store has one & buy it asap. Or at least try it & fall in love. I've bought 2 other 12 strings in the meantime & they don't come close. I'm glad I finally got my Martin tofday.

Ian at the Winnipeg store was great, received this beautiful guitar within 24 hours from first contact. Blazing speed on shipping, excellent customer care. The sound is stunning, without having to pay thousands of dollars. Easy to play, and I am very happy!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
