I tried out a bunch of the Korean 5420's and was really not impressed. I gave them a really fair shake(at least 10hrs.) I was about to give up. Then I found this one in a walnut finish. Played great. Bigsby felt great stayed in tune. This was the one. I bought, got home and realized it was made in China. Ward. I didn't realize they were making them in China. How could this guitar be e so good. Anyway long story long. I think the new post 2022 crafted in China are better than the Korea Villa. I realize that is not popular, especially with the people who own the Korean builds. Anyway for people that have reservations about the China thing. Give them a try you will be over impressed. They sound and play great.

Really comfortable to play. Great Gretsch sound you expect. Even sounds lovely when not plugged in. Just recently purchased but am expecting years of enjoyment. Love the aspen green color and quality of craftsmanship seems pretty good so far. I was seriously considering an Epiphone swingster, wildcat, casino or emperor but just kept gravitating back to this beaut. This box might not be for everyone but for those looking for a hollow body and their luscious tones and warmth this is a fantastic choice. Rock and roll, rockabilly and jazz are pristinely emulated by it. The blacktops are nowhere near as noisy as some say and give that unmistakable and unmatched sound. The upgraded hardware that comes on this model is really nice too. As always the guys at Edmonton north took good care of me and made sure it was well bundled up for the ride home. Lol

When I first bought my Aspen Green G5420T Gretsch, it was an impulse buy, and I was worried that I would soon have buyer's remorse as I often do with big purchases. A year later, and I can't imagine living without this magnificent instrument. Not only is it beautiful to look at (which people often tell me at gigs), but my guitar playing has dramatically improved, because every time I look at it I want to pick it up and play it. I paid about $40 more purchasing mine from another store (only because L&M didn't have this colour in stock at the time), so L&M is selling it at a great price right now. You won't regret buying this gorgeous instrument.

This is a high quality instrument! The new Filtertron pickups produce that vintage Gretsch sound and the colour is right out of the fifties. A joy to play, it'll take you back ?

This guitar got my attention at the store due to its nice "vintage" aspen green finishing. I decided to give it a try and was impressed by the following: a) Craftsmanship: I could not find anything wrong with the guitar. The 2016 model has an "aged" multi-ply binding that matches the aspen green perfectly. Fretboard was impeccable. 5-ply maple, good quality rosewood (fretboard), pearloid inlays and GraphTec nut. b) Playability: comfortable neck, frets with rounded edges, great action and no buzz. c) Sound and electronics: the black top filter tron PUs have lots of twang and the Gretsch sound I was looking for. I like the midrange as well. They sound very dynamic and responsive. These are great PUs. Pots are not CTS, they are made in Korea but no concerns so far. If needed, it would cost me almost nothing to replace the pots with CTS ones and install a Switchcraft output jack. d) Hardware: good hardware. No issues and no need to replace anything. Bigsby B60!!! The 2016 model plays, sounds and looks great right out of the box. It sounds amazing with my Vox and Carvin amps. This Gretsch guitar is proof that you don't need a very expensive guitar to sound great, in the studio or on stage. Just be careful with feedback as this is a full hollow-body guitar. I have many guitars (classical, acoustic and electric), made in USA, Europe and Asia. I have bad g.a.s. and always look for a good deal based on quality, playability, sound and value. Please trust me. This is indeed a great guitar. I couldn't resist and brought one home. By the way, I never sell or trade my guitars, so my kids will also enjoy this beauty. Thanks Fender/Gretsch/Korea for another great instrument.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
