To celebrate Flea's enduring influence, Fender has recreated his prized Shell Pink '61 Jazz Bass that he received from a fan and used to record the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium and The Getaway, as well as with the supergroup, Atoms For Peace.

A pair of vintage-style, American-made Pure Vintage '64 Jazz Bass single-coil pickups provides classic, original-era Fender tone with clear articulation, clear low end definition, up-front midrange punch and singing high end. The vintage-accurate stacked concentric controls shape the pickups volume and tone, as well as allowing the pickups to be blended in any ratio. The Flea Jazz Bass plays fast and easy, thanks to its period-accurate 20-fret "C"-shaped maple neck with a smooth Road Worn nitrocellulose lacquer finish on the back, plus a 7.25"-radius rosewood fingerboard with a 1.5" wide nut. The vintage-style bridge sports four threaded steel "barrel" saddles, adding a touch of crispness to enhance the attack for tone that can power through a busy mix.

Shell Pink is the rarest of Fender's classic Custom Color finishes, and Flea's '61 Jazz Bass is quite possibly the only one in existence. A special neck plate engraved with Flea's own artwork commemorates the inspiration behind this instrument. Other aesthetic touches include nickel/chrome hardware, 4-ply tortoiseshell pickguard and aged white dot position inlays.

Melding rhythm and melody with fierce personal style, Flea has left his mark on modern music, and the Flea Jazz Bass is the perfect tool to make your own.

I hate, loath, hate, loath, hate and loathe basses that are \"unnaturally\" road worn from Fender. However. I quickly learned, never say never.... once I put my hands on this bass, I\'m now a changed man. Forget the act that I do love Flea. I like my basses to look brand new. So why would I buy an artificially beat up Fender Jazz? Well, I know that I will never afford a 1961 Fender Jazz with concentric pots. THIS BASS IS A TONE MACHINE. I play it often and can\'t believe how smooth it is. The neck is smaller than a regular jazz. The neck and body have a nitro finish. The bass not only feels sonically old, it sounds sonically old. All of this from a MIM bass. Real heads know. This bass has got more mojo that you can ever find for the price point. Buy and and come back and read my review.... and you will see I was right all along.

I’ve been a fan of flea and RHCP for a long time and when I had the chance to get one of these basses I just couldn’t pass it up! I plays great, looks phenomenal and sounds unreal! No if you think that it’s stupid paying this much for an MIM jazz bass don’t worry because this jazz bass was better than any other jazz bass in the store. Sure of course you’re gonna be paying a premium to have fleas name on the back but you get what you pay for.

It's surreal reading bad reviews because this bass doesn't compare to basses with which it has nothing in common. DUH! I've played it extensively in stores here and abroad and every time it's been absolutely awesome. I much prefer this deeper neck profile and it's fast as a Ferrari. The relic work looks and feels legit too, which makes sense given it's a faithful copy of the genuine wear on Flea's bass. I have old basses, and to me most relics look like the obvious fake they are. Only knock I'd give it is that the neck plate is goofy. I respect Flea and RHCP, but I don't follow the band. Thankfully there's no ugly artist signature on the head stock like many sig basses are marred with. The neck plate is easy and inexpensive to replace if it's a big deal. Long time player here, gigged decades in dozens of bands in disparate genres, including with household name acts, with vintage Fenders including w/ stack pot controls.

Anyone who spends 2k on a MIM Fender guitar or bass must have money to burn. This bass is as good as any $1000 MIM Jazz bass out there, but if you want to spend double because of the artists name attached to it then you need to give your head a shake. If you're a Flea fan, do yourself a favour and buy a Flea t-shirt, and a regular MIM Fender Jazz bass...and save yourself $800.

I expected a bit more having owned a few geddy lee signature basses.. Neck doesn't feel as nice compared to the geddy, it's a lot thicker. I didnt find the nitro finish to be any smoother. Pickups seemed to have this overpowering low end and lack of highs. If you wanna sound like flea kids grab a stingray this is an obv marketing ploy imo. Sold the bass after a month of trying to bond with it. Oh I did sorta like the pink tho... -25 years on bass/ owned 100+ basses in that time.

I don't usually take the time to write reviews but ever since I saw this bass at my local LM used I was interested simply due to the fact that it had concentric pots (stacked knobs). You can ether spend $30,000 on a 1961 jazz, $3000-$4000 on a used journeyman since they don't make them anymore or you can get this bass. I am certain this is no where as nice as a true 60's jazz but oh man does it ever play better than my American jazz, my Warwick, and all my other basses. I am not making this up. The neck is fast, the pickups are punchy as heck and the tone control is incredible. My only gripe is I hate relic instruments. I?d rather put the dings on it myself. But, that being said it makes it easy to gig with as you won't be upset if you bump into a corner and make a mark. Honestly I haven't put this thing down since I got it. Take it for a spin and you will see what I mean

Just got mine two weeks ago and I play it a lot. Very light bass, well balanced, and very comfortable to play. Relic job is very good but I wish Fender supplied a shinier, more vintage look, pick guard. My pick guard is very dark and it's finish is extremely dull. Sounds great and was very playable right out of the box. Only drawn back is a minor finish pimple on the back of the neck @ low F that has now peeled away to expose bare wood. Highly recommend.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
