Deep, articulate tone and classic semi-hollowbody style are the hallmarks of the Epiphone Jack Casady Signature Bass. The maple body, mahogany center block, set maple neck, and rosewood fretboard conspire to create a sweet-playing bass you won't want to put down. Has a single low-impedance JCB-1 humbucker with VariTone control, as well as traditional volume and tone knobs. Pearloid trapezoid fingerboard inlays, body binding, and Jack's signature across the headstock set it apart.

Jack Casady, electric rock bass player extraordinaire, worked closely with Gibson and Epiphone to create this tasty signature model. It's a long-scale, hollowbody electric bass constructed loosely around his vintage 1972 Gibson Les Paul Signature bass, discovered in a New York instrument shop in the mid '80s. Starting from there, Jack spent a lot of energy working with a pickup designer from Epiphone putting together a new humbucker to reside in his signature model. Together they nailed down a passive pickup and control section that delivered tone so pure and natural it'll give you goose bumps. The pickup is a special low-impedance model (the JCB-1), which produces a bass sound high impedance pickups and active electronics can't match.

The controls - a volume, tone, and versatile VariTone knob - produce enough variation for any situation. The bass has a unique and high-quality transformer with a 3-way impedance selector was used, which eliminates the need for active circuitry while giving the low-impedance signal from the pickup a boost. The pickup impedance selector (VariTone) allows for sounds from clear and clean with acoustic vibe to deep, round, and growling rock authority.

The body construction is very unique, too. It's not a true semi-hollow or hollow body, but a hybrid that combines the best from both designs. Under the bridge is a mahogany center block that adds sustain and helps to fight feedback. This construction allows the top to vibrate freely, giving the bass guitar a more natural, woody tone.

The Epiphone Jack Casady Signature Bass is as unique as Jack, with a vibe, tone, and innovative features all its own.

I bought this bass, let me list first the downsides. Just plain uncomfortable, after many years of playing Fender Jazz, P bass, Musicman Sterling and a Warwick $$ Corvette this just isn't ergonomic. All those basses i listed are basically the same body shape, and for a reason. This one is neck heavy and with the top strap attaching on the back of the neck it wants to roll down and outwards from the top, doesn't sit nice and flat on your body without your hands on it. Wondering if I could put the strap mounted where it should be? The action is way too high for a 1000 dollar(Canadian) or so bass. This feels a little chunkier than all those other basses I have. The upside is a great low end punch when the rotary switch is turned up to 500, it seems almost useless at the 50 setting. Pickguard seems almost useless and stupid, probably will remove mine.

The fact that I Iike this bass as much as I do really surprises me. After I bought my dream Fender P Bass years ago I never thought I'd ever own a non made in America bass again. But I picked this one up in the store, played it for awhile, fell for it and ordered the ebony model. It's sound is limited, the build quality isn't as high as I've been used to, the neck isn't silky, the bridge is an abomination. But string it up with some flat wounds and it's sound is so cool. It looks cool, it sounds good while practicing unplugged and it's just a lot of fun and that was what has surprised me the most, the amount of fun I have while playing this bass. Get it walking, get it rocking, thump out some blues, take it for a solo. Try one and see for your self.

I bought the original model of this bass when they first came out - over 10 years ago. At that time it cost close to $900. The best thing about it is that there are no "dead spots" in the neck - both of my Fender basses have them around the sixth fret. Sound-wise it does have it's own mid range type of sound. Not too boomy. There is a varri-tone button which basically seems to make it louder. Comfort-wise it is a big beast and not the greatest to play sitting down. The quality on mine was so-so: the tail piece seperated from the body and had to be reglued and the tone and volume pots both recently had to be replaced. I suspect the newer one have better quality electronics. While I played it quite a bit when I first bought it, it has since become more of a spare bass mostly because its size makes it a uncomfortable to play. Overall, it does have it's own sound and I see that Paul McCartney's bass player uses one on ocassion. So, my suggestion is that this is definitely one bass you should try out in person before buying.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
