Fiery sounding and flexible, the Pugilist Distortion is ready to add some heavyweight gain to your rig. This original design features dual gain engines - with independent tone controls for each - letting you select multiple variations of distortion, ensuring this pedal will play well with any rig. Series/Blend switch lets you stack channels for thick, cascading distortion, while the Bass Boost switch fattens up your tone. The Blend control mixes the two channels to get the best of both worlds, crafting a sound just for you.

The chassis is crafted from lightweight, durable anodized aluminum, and the Amp Jewel LED gives your pedalboard the classic Fender look. The LED-backlit knobs show your control settings on a dark stage at a glance, and swapping batteries is quicker and easier than ever with Fender's exclusive magnetically latched 9V battery door.

Ranging from brutal to subtle, the Pugilist Distortion can satisfy all your distortion needs.

This is a great distortion. Seems to sound best in series mode, very clear, open and amplike cascading distortion. I use it with a Mexican Strat and a Marshall origin 20 combo. Such a versatile pedal, my main setting is in series with even tone and each gain stage cranked up to about 3/4. Still got lots of playing around to do. Did an extensive side by side comparison with my boss ds-1, the pugilist is much more real sounding with better sustain. Makes the ds-1 sound fizzy and fuzzy and artificial. I was torn between this and the JHS Andy Timmons which is twice the price and my amp already has a footswitchable boost anyway. The way the pugilist sustains and the aggressive sharpness of the notes with lead tones is just great. Can't go wrong with this one!

Haha yea right you'd say...fender can't make pedals that rock or can be considered classic, like Boss etc . Yea I would have said that, then this line came out! They are beautiful, so well made. Built like Tanks! Led lite knobs that u can turn on and off! Brilliant. I can see better in my dark room or on stage! The sounds that are unleashed out of this beast are truly as awesome as it's design. I play outta a super reverb and either a Jazzmaster or Epiphone Les Paul custom, as my weapsons of choice. Stacking the circuit really pushed my amp well. It's not a over the top distortion but boy it's still huge sounding. I can get very Marshall like Tones as well... The A series has wonderful overdrive tones that border on Vox tones as well. Lots or wonderful tweaking can be done with this Beast. Id love to try the Full Moon pedal next. Keep on rocking in the Free World.

Well designed pedal with features that will appeal to players of any skill level. Takes an hour or two of experimenting and knob-tweaking, but that's part of the fun. The pedal has two modes; "Blend" and "Series". Blend mode separates the two drive signals and allows you to isolate or blend A & B together. Series mode sends the signal through each drive circuit consecutively, "stacking" the distortion. The Blend mode is good for situations where you want an overdriven sound and the Series mode is great for high-gain. I mostly play punk and classic metal (Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Bad Religion, Nofx) and I enjoy the sound the pedal produces. I'm currently running through an Orange Crush 20 on the clean channel, with either a Strat(w/HumBucker) or LP. For the price, it's worth at least checking out.

Bought this to replace an old Danelectro Fab-Tone, best decision possible. The old pedal had plenty of distortion, but the Pugilist adds clarity that I couldn't get before. My issues lie in the Bass Boost switch not being particularly strong, and that the gain falls a bit short of what I'm after, lacking the strong Jimmy Page-esque treble. Might be more to do with my cheap Fender Acoustasonic amp.

Punches way above it's price point! I'd grab one before they raise the price. Quality tones that are extremely adjustable. The pedal sounds excellent on any settings. Took me a while to figure out the full scope of the pedal but the most significant and easiest thing to remember is for ultimate high gain switch it to series. It's an ear opening experience to blend the two gain channels together. I'm usually balls to the wall, full on distortion, but I must admit that I appreciate the element the cleaner distortion of A brings blended into B. I would have never considered Fender pedals before. They just released more at Summer Namm 19. Thanks L&M for the quick shipping to Thunder Bay (Purolator)

Jammed with a buddy on this pedal for hours through a Fender Excelsior amp. Super Strat sounded fat and full of character, pedal maintained the guitar tone and boosted it, you could tweak it into natural grit or get nasty. Fantastic tone! Cons: switch is loud and super mechanical, battery door is cool, but hard to put the battery in and you might break something in there...

This pedal dials in perfectly with my rig. Don't let the affordability trick you into thinking this thing doesn't rule. It saves you room on your pedalboard. I usually stack drives and distortions, but this baby took two other pedals off my loop. Sounds good with a little dirt, but also boasts a huge and saturated distortion sound. Easy to tweak to your liking. Definitely looking into some of the other options on fenders new pedal line up.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
