Yamaha somehow got this guitar perfectly right. The sound of the lower tones and resonance of the highs, make it the best sounding classical in the store... regardless of price. Playability is amazing and the price is too low.. wow. i use another Yamaha upper end classical with active pickup and mic on board for the most amazing live performing and recording. The C40 just plays and records to nice live... I repurchased it after selling it to upgrade a few years ago. I missed it.... Great work Yamaha

My wife and I have been wanting to buy a guitar for the longest time but we haven't gotten round to it. Eventually we did. Both of us are beginners. We know nothing about playing the guitar. We saw the Yamaha C-40. It is reasonably priced. I was a big hesitant because it is made of compressed wood. But we took the risk. And we were very surprised. It was a small sized guitar. But everything about it we found excellent - the finish, the sound, and the fret board. It is very easy to play! We enjoy it. Now our children are also learning to play the guitar!

Ordered online due to social distancing and when I first played it, I called it “the boob crusher”. Ouch! Returned and got a smaller guitar that’s much more comfortable!

I wanted to try nylon string guitar so for the price I thought I couldn't lose. Better than that, I love this guitar. Perfect intonation, L & M offer a free setup with it but it doesn't need it. Just put some nice new strings on it and it sounds terrific.

I have 2 of these guitars now, and have owned a few more of them. I have an extra one for visitors to play along with me, or if I break a string during a gig and need another guitar that's ready to go right now! They both sound the same - great for the price. I would say that the C40 has a feature that is a deal-maker for me. It has a bridge height/structure that allows you to file away some of the plastic saddle (bridge nut) to get the action (string height above fret board) low enough for playing chords right up the neck to the 10th fret! On most other classical guitars I've seen, the bridge is too high to get the strings this close to the fret board. In my opinion, the only thing this guitar needs is a piezo pickup for amplification. I'd gladly pay twice as much ($300 range) to have this feature on this guitar.

My first guitar ,bought it four plus years ago. I changed the strings to high tension Savarez J540 and lowered the action. Since then I bought 3 more expensive guitars ,BUT this one is my favorite.Very easy to play, the sound is not bad for practicing alone, stays in tune for days and I don't have to worry much if I ding it here and there or if it cracks which hasn't happened yet even though it's never in a case. I recommend to everyone to have one of these or to start with one of these.the BEST value for the money !

I own two of these as well as five other guitars and have to say it offers great value in a beginner guitar. It's well built, has good tone and intonation and stays in tune. It doesn't have any fancy features, the binding is painted on and the rosette is a decal but nobody notices that and it plays and sounds great, the money was put into the performance, not the looks, as it should be, particularly at this price range. I've played a lot of guitars and looked at so many more and have to say I don't think you can find a better value in a beginner classical guitar.

We have 24 of these guitars at the junior high school where I teach. These guitars are put to the test on a daily basis. They are very durable and the sound is incredible for the price. I highly recommend this guitar.

I am a Guitar Instructor in Mississauga/Toronto and I recommend the YAMAHA C40 for beginners. The nylon strings are less painful on the fingers. The wide neck makes learning one's first chords easier - strings are not too close to each other. Good value-for-money.

I've played guitar for about 20 years, I bought my C40 about a year or two ago just to have an inexpensive guitar that I could leave on a stand in the living room and sometimes take on trips or to parties. It's a very decent guitar, well made and it gets a good sound. It’s well intonated and it stays in tune. I didn’t buy this guitar expecting too much because of the low price, so liking this guitar as much as I do has been a pleasant surprise. Cheers!

I have this one and changed to better quality strings. It sounds much better and found it easy to play. Although the neck is wider that a Steel stringed guitar. It can be used for many differant types of music. Not just classical songs.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
