Have you always dreamed about going wireless with your instrument, but were put off by the complicated setup, tone loss, and bulky adds-ons? If so, the WL-20 series is for you! Driven by new lightning-fast BOSS tech, these ultra-compact music tools deliver premium sound and plug-and-play operation that completely eliminates all the hassles normally associated with wireless systems. Once you experience the easy wireless independence provided by the WL-20 series, you'll never go back to using a standard cable again!

FEATURES

  • Plug-and-play wireless systems for guitar, bass, and other electronic instruments

  • No complicated setup required - simply dock the transmitter and receiver together for about 10 seconds to set the optimum wireless connection

  • Newly developed BOSS technology delivers premium audio performance with rock-solid stability, ultra-low latency (2.3 ms), and 50-foot/15-meter range (line-of-sight propagation)*

  • Built-in rechargeable batteries provide up to 12 hours of continuous playing time**

  • Simple charging with a standard USB adaptor (5 V/500 mA or greater)

  • Cable tone simulation reproduces the natural capacitive effect of a 10-foot/3-meter guitar cable (WL-20 model only)

  • Spare WL-T Transmitter available separately

Lightning-Fast BOSS Wireless Technology
Equipped with high-performance BOSS wireless technology that debuted in the Katana-Air wireless guitar amp, the WL-20 series delivers exceptional sound quality with wide dynamic range. Working in the 2.4 GHz frequency band, the optimum channel is set automatically to ensure rock-solid audio performance with absolutely no drop-outs. And with ultra-low latency of just 2.3 ms, you'll always enjoy great playing feel with no lag whatsoever. Up to 14 BOSS wireless systems can be used simultaneously in one space, allowing multiple musicians to enjoy wireless freedom at the same time.

Plug In and Rock
A WL-20 system is literally as simple to use as a standard guitar cable. The small transmitter plugs into your instrument, while a matching receiver plugs into a pedal or amp. That's it!

Automatic Wireless Setup
With the WL-20 series, there's no fiddly channel setup required. Just dock the transmitter and receiver together for about 10 seconds to automatically set the optimum connection.

WL-20: Built-In Cable Tone Simulation
If you play a guitar or bass with standard passive pickups (the most common pickup type), the WL-20 model is probably your best choice. It includes built-in cable tone simulation, which reproduces the natural capacitive effect that's introduced when using a 10-foot/3-meter guitar cable with passive pickups. This effect rolls off the treble very slightly, giving you the warm tone you're used to hearing with a normal cable.

Easy Charging via USB
When docked, the built-in batteries in the transmitter and receiver can be charged together with a standard USB adaptor (5 V/500 mA or higher), the same type used with the latest smartphones and tablets. The transmitter and receiver can also be charged separately, and a micro USB cable is included for charging.

Heard other people having trouble with battery and frequency finding. So far I have not had any trouble. Unit works well, charges fast. Charge last for hours, never ran out of battery on performance day. Works with Strat or Les Paul. But I can hear latency when I walk up to 30 feet away. I don't like any latency. Been using a Shure PGXD4 before for 5 years and started having minor dropouts, investigating the cause of that. The Shure also had latency that got worse the further I was away from the receiver. Been thinking about getting a backup WL-20 unit for the day I probably will experience equipment failure of some kind. I have a 20 foot guitar cord too, just in case, which has zero latency. The WL-20 is like a $300.00 guitar cord.

….Couldn’t use it at home. I played one gig with it and it worked great with not a single dropout but it was useless in my basement. I found it stuttering and dropping out. I set up my Line6 G30 right next to the Boss receiver to see if it would lose the signal whenever the Boss did and sure enough the Line6 never lost the signal. I tried changing the channel on the Boss a number of times but it still kept dropping out. I think I have to find a unit that uses either UHF or 5.8GHz frequency although the Boss and my Line6 both use the 2.4GHz frequency with different results. It should be noted that the 2.4GHz frequency is extremely busy as it is being used by cellphones, wifi etc.

This WL-20L is great with ACTIVE pickups and worked well until it stopped working. The transmitter died one month after the standard 1 yr warranty with minimal usage. The replacement transmitter is pretty expensive. I do still recommend this, but just make sure to extend the annual warranty and always have a backup cable nearby.

I highly recommend these -- great battery run time, connects right up with low latency -- and sound great. I have experienced a bit of broadcast interference in performance situations where I had to switch to cable, but it rarely happened. Also did get some crackling in sound which i think happens either when batteries are starting to get low or with higher input volume. It's rare, though. I'm using these with my Roland Aerophone and they are great. Tried other ones but they didn't have the battery life and audio clarity of these.

Using them in a smaller area right now. Easy to switch guitars. Haven't been able to test out the full range (the distance) yet. I fully satisfied !!

I'm just a hack playing in my basement to entertain myself but have 3 electrics in my collection of guitars. The way my music area is setup I prefer playing standing up so not having a cord to constantly move out of the way is "the way to go". My biggest concern when shopping for wireless was latency but ends up being no concern with this unit and it is very easy to setup and use and sounds great. You don't need to be a stage performer to enjoy the benefits of wireless. Do it, cut the wire.....

Being liberated from a guitar cord is a seriously positive change. I still flinch when I move around my room, hunched over ready to keep my guitar cord from messing something up. But I don't have a guitar cord anymore. This is awesome. The WL-20 would be easier to travel with if Boss made a little two-compartment case for it. I don't know how to get this suggestion to them.

I use this wireless in my home studio and when I teach! Guitar teachers will relate. Are you always tripping over cords when teaching? This is a great solution! Home practice too! I have also used it at open mic type gigs where you just plug the receiver into the direct box. I plan on getting a spare transmitter. This thing is great!

I've been using these at various venues for a number of months now. Generally it works well and as advertised. If you use two at once there are some quirks. The first system MUST be paired and actually plugged in in order for the second system to pair properly (if you don't do this the two units will both pair to the default first frequency and won't work - this isn't made very clear in the manual). The transmitter fits well into a Strat's recessed jack, but sticks out like a chicken wing from a Les Paul or other guitar with input jack on the rim. My solution is to use a short extension cable with a female jack, and just tuck the end with the transmitter into my pocket. Another quirk is that, because these units use TRS plugs to charge but only the tip and sleeve to play, they can confuse guitars that have stereo out jacks, especially jacks that 'detect' whether you are using a TS or TRS plug (such as some Ernie Ball or Graph Tech Ghost piezo acoustic/magnetic systems). There are workarounds, but if you use one of these guitars you need to think about that. If I was going to suggest improvements, it would be to have a pivoting jack for LP-type inputs, and a digital battery-life readout. A replaceable battery would also be nice - these ones just get thrown out once the battery runs down.

I have been using this for about two months with absolutely no issues. No drop outs or glitches. I don't stray too far from my amp so have not tested the range but it works across a stage with no issues. Conveniently plugs into my bass and then into the amp. Used on about six gigs plus practice sessions. Battery lasts for gig and then some, just recharge before the next one. Highly recommended.

I use this from my pedal board to my guitar (short distance). It has performed every bit as good as a cable. I like that it does not take up room on my pedal board, like my line 6, you just don't get that real estate back! And so much easier than my shure set up (however, the shure gives me a great connection at very long distances.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
