I have owned BX5a,KRK, yamaha HS8M ,mixcubes for my home studio. I was looking to upgrade, because I felt my mixes were not translating accurately on different systems. After doing some research online, I decided to go with a pair of KH120A. After setting them up properly to find the sweet spot, I listened to different genres of music to see what all the hype is about. Holy Moly! I have never been so immersed in the music. You can easily pinpoint the smallest details. Result : I had to remix all my upcoming releases and it was a real pleasure to do it. Mixing decisions are a breeze. I wish I had them sooner. The only con is the bass. They deliver good bass for the size, but I always double check on headphones and bigger reference monitors. With a sub this could be the ultimate setup. I definitely recommend.

I did a lot of research and these appeared to be the most accurate monitors in their price range (and in fact much more accurate than many more expensive monitors) One reviewer said that they were the most accurate speakers he'd ever tested. It's good to know that the bass doesn't extend much lower than 50hz, but they are very flat as low as they go, and for normal music playback the perform very well on their own, but for checking deeper sub bass, a subwoofer is recommended. I low pass my subwoofer at 50hz and use the neumanns to monitor the critical mid bass. Some forum users complained that Neumann monitors in general don't play as loudly as others. It seems to be true that their rated maximum SPL is lower than some other monitors, but in my experience they easily play as loudly as I want them to for a smaller space. I keep them on their lowest output setting with the level about halfway up on the mixer and get plenty of volume. My guitar and bass amps are at the jam space, so I tried using these monitors to play those through as well. You need a preamp to get the tone, but once you have the tone you want, these speakers reproduce it perfectly. Hi-z instruments directly in sound a little dry and weak, but with some signal processing, one of these speakers can make a very capable mini-amp (I doubt that anyone will do this, but hey, trying to be complete here) I have worked on some a very expensive genelec system and I can honestly say that I prefer these speakers. It may be because I actually own these speakers and have gotten quite comfortable where I just did one session on the genelecs. You won't regret buying these.

Very even response and great detail. I used to use Adam A7X and I view the KH120s as a definite upgrade. Don't care how many awards the Adams get, to my ear they have hyped highs and some honk in the mids.

I'm a sound designer for Film and Television and lately I've been doing a lot of Sci Fi production (Killjoys, Dark Matter) Designing this type of sound scape is very demanding on a speaker but the Neumann's handle it very well. It takes the huge transients and rapidly changing spl and frequency levels and maintains the clarity and detail without getting bogged down. I'm so impressed I had to review.

I mix mainly classical and accoustic rep and these have been an absolute joy to work with. I am very used to B&W 802s which are a larger multi-driver system (many times the price), and these end up being like a little brother version of those venerable monitors. The spectral detail is stunning, eq is all I need, and they pass the spouce factor due to their diminutive profile. My reason for giving them a nine instead of ten is for the paint job; could have been a thicker powder coat or something. Get 'em. Get 'em now!

The best way to decide on these monitors is to take them home and try them out. There are a lot of nice sounding speakers in L&M, but for critical listening these show amazing detail. The frequency graph is completely flat. When you listen in your own environment all frequencies are evenly displayed without hyping any frequency. The low end detail is so smooth its hard to believe that this is a 5.25 inch speaker. There is no honkiness, just a steady even sound. It feels like I have a sub with all of the extra low detail that these monitors bring. Don't just compare them to other monitors in the store because some others sound better in that environment, however the Neumanns have the most full featured sound of any monitor in that price bracket.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
