Designed for players who want an easy-to-use amp packed with unbeatable performance and features, the Champion 50XL contains a wide selection of amp models and effects.

The Champion 50 adds a more aggressive look and sound to the Champion series - "black on black" cosmetics separate it from the series' traditional aesthetics. Four "stompbox" effects (Compressor, Overdrive, Distortion and Octaver) add flexibility to the twelve amp tones that range from pristine clean to full-on metal distortion. A full complement of twelve classic effects, ranging from reverb and delay to Vibratone, provide the perfect platform for sonic experimentation. Completing the package, the 12" Celestion "Midnight 60" speaker brings full tone, increased output and expressiveness to this versatile amplifier.

bought this as a first amp with a les paul a year ago now, overall the amp is really nice however it doesnt get very quiet the lowest settings are still pretty loud but thats okay, the issue i have with the features are the headphone jack, the volume highs and lows are very weird and as a feature is lack luster. otherwise great amp just maybe get a headphone specific amp like the mini vox one that takes batterys if you need quiet sometimes

I acquired yesterday from my local L&M the Fender 50XL combo. First, I must add I already own a Marshal Origin 20 Combo, a Traynor 1X12 cab with a Celestion 25 Greenback I used with my EH 5mm pedal amp and a Boss DS-1 (everyone should try THAT!! Sounds amazing!!!)and an Orange 35RT Combo that are great. The 50XL, since I favour Brit sound, filled the Fender niche. LOL and behold! The 50XL sounds incredible with my guitars, either Gibson or Fender. Truly, for less than $300, this amp is the deal. It's very light. Its speaker is good with no need for a replacement, it's powerful enough for most gigs unless you plan a stadium one but, then again, with today's PA, who needs a full stack? Yes, I know, they look good. Well, I was absolutely surprised. On the other hand, due to its price, I wonder how much abuse it could take? But if you take good care of your instruments, it shouldn't be a problem. The effects are good, though some player might lack more parameters for their desired sounds. I'm quite minimalist, so if you are old school as I am, it's much more than enough. Too bad it doesn't come with a foot switch. For home or recording use, it isn't an issue. I tried in the past a few competitors models in the same price range. Those who come to mind are the equivalent in price (or close to it) Katana, the regular Fender Champion, and offerings by Marshall. I never liked the Katanas (too digital for yours truly). The Fender Champion (a few dollars less) in my humble opinion doesn't sound as good, possibly since its 12" doesn't compare to the Celestion in the XL. Marshall amps in the price range offer smaller cabs with an 8" while the Orange CR35RT is more expensive with only a 10".

I have had my Champion 50XL for more than 6 months now. As a beginner I was looking for an inexpensive amp with built-in effects and a clean sound, that doesn't need to be cranked too loud to hear distortion. This amp is perfect - the effects like reverb, tremolo etc are easy to dial in, and they can be left in place when you switch to channel 2 where you can choose your distortion level. The sound is nice and clean and I can change sounds easily to match the song I am learning. In a few seconds I can select a clean sound for learning country songs, or add reverb when playing The Eagles, or switch to channel 2 and add crunch when learning classic rock sounds. This is a great little amp for a very reasonable price! A big shout-out to Kris at the North Bay Ontario store for his excellent service.

Amp was back ordered at the time but LQ rep called that the located one at another location which was nice of them. The clean tones and reverb, tremolo out of the Celestion speaker is superlative! I would have preferred the old style grill cloth but whatever also no pre-out but the 100XL has that. Very delighted with the 50XL and Long&McQuade. Rk

I got tired of lugging around my Marshall Dfx50. To my buddies to jam and back. Tried this out and it had a warm sound in the store and the few settings I tried sounded pretty good for what I need. After three months I am pretty happy with my purchase.

I had a Mustang III V2 that I had sold during a downsize and having recently gained a music room again I found myself looking for a budget amp with the famous Fender clean sound. I considered the Mustang GT series but they were not in the same league as the Mustang III for sound. Plus I wasn't interested in going down the patch creation rabbit hole again. I stumbled across the Champion series and in particular the 50XL. The fender cleans are on par with the Mustang III that I had and the process to find the tone I wanted took seconds right on the face of the amp without a need to go through a cumbersome menu system. In my smallish music room going above 9 o'clock on the volume it quickly gets into ear ringing territory. It gets very loud if that's what you're looking for. It still sounds warm and full at the lower volumes I play. The monochrome black design looks quite classy as well. I'm very happy with this amp.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
