Designed as the ideal preamp for any application, the tube driven TPS II and DPS II add warmth and texture to any audio source. These two-channel high performance preamps use a hand selected 12AX7A tube in the low noise input circuitry. This, coupled with ART's proprietary V3 (Variable Valve Voicing) and variable input impedance allow the TPS II and DPS II to deliver incredible performance from cost effective single space rackmount solutions.

V3 Technology
V3 provides optimized reference points to begin the recording process. The V3 presets were created and fine-tuned by some of the industry's top studio and live-sound engineers. V3 technology allows you to select between a multitude of presets designed for guitars (electric and acoustic), keyboards, bass guitars, drums, vocals and more.

Variable Input Impedance
Variable input impedance increases the sonic potential of the TPS II & DPS II even further. It delivers entirely new sonic textures and tone by varying the input impedance of the preamp, which in turn varies the way the microphone reacts to the load of the preamp. This creates a wide range of new sonic possibilities with any modern or vintage condenser, ribbon or dynamic microphone.

The variable impedance control is infinitely variable allowing much finer control and the ability to tune the preamp to the microphone's ideal sweet spot. A feature usually only available on far more expensive and exclusive microphone preamps.

Extremely Wide Dynamic Range
The DPS II and TPS II can accept up to +20dB peaks while maintaining over 120dB dynamic range with incredibly low distortion. Input LED metering monitors the signal level of the input amplifier so maximum gain can be achieved without clipping the preamp at the input.

OPL (Output Protection Limiter)
ART's OPL (Output Protection Limiter), which precisely and accurately controls and maintains the output peak signal. The OPL circuitry is crucial in protecting the next link in a signal chain - such as a hard-disk recording system or a sound card - because unlike analog clipping that sounds musical and sometimes pleasing, digital clipping is nasty and often fatal for your monitors' tweeters.

A versatile insert loop on each channel provides access for additional signal processing or direct access to our high quality A/D converter. Separate gain controls on analog and digital outputs allow you to optimize the unit for simultaneous applications.

Had mine for a few years, loved it while it worked. Now it does not. Opened it up, TWENTY FOUR of the capacitors inside have burst! Obviously a manufacturer defect. My studio is fully power conditioned. Would cost me more to re-cap it, than to buy a new one. Beware.

Purchased a used unit from LM-Scarborough; the unit did what it was purchased for which was to provided clean gain for a condenser and a dynamic mic. It was good value, for what I paid. After changing the stock tube with a Tung-Sol, I have to say it's great value for a budget tube preamp.

This preamp was the best purchase I've made to add to my bass rig. With this I've finally crafted the sound I was looking for. Thanks to the V3 settings (experiment with it), I can finally unleash the boom in my fender p-bass with EMGs and the growl from my Jackson js3v.

It's not a great preamp as boutique preamps go but this is NOT a boutique preamp. It's a budget preamp aimed at entry level recording enthusiasts. The solid state end of the preamps are discreet as far as I can tell which is something to consider. That means that pushing the pres a little hard isn't going to result in harsh, sand paper distortion. The Toob end is a starved plate design but not nearly as starved as your typical 9 or 12 volt variety. The tube seems to be getting enough plate voltage to push the headroom a little higher so you're not hitting fuzz(so called tube warmth) right away. The variable impedance is really a useful tool. Experiment with the settings and you can get tones that seem compressed or boxy to very open. A nice touch. The weakest point for me is the V3 voicing. The tones here are controlled by an IC. There's no real explanation of what's going on with the settings. Most of the settings I don't like. Particularly with the sources they are intended. The OPL limiter sounds horrible IMHO. If you can avoid this, you are better off. But, you may find a setting that works. Experimentation is the key with this thing. It's not perfect. It's also not very expensive. Is it better than the preamps in your interface? Maybe. It depends on the interface. Is it useful? Sure it is. Just don't buy a VW Beetle expecting it to perform like a Ferrari. It's not going to happen.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
