Can't say enough about this guitar. Amazing sound and tough enough to handle the abuse I put it through. I string it with custom 14's and tune it flat to get the maximum sound from the jumbo frame...little harder to play but worth the extra tone that comes out of it

I have an old Gibson dreadnaught, I needed a newer guitar. I tried every other guitar at L&M, and other shops here in town, and, I liked a gibson the best. I'm a songwriter. I play electrics on stage, and I write mostly on acoustic at home. This 2011 J-45 Standard is all I need. It's very supportive of writing. Easy to strum. It has the same feel as my Les Paul, but with bigger strings (I use a wound G on acoustics), Very easy to play. Everything works well on this git. Tuning heads, Grovers,(yeah), neck/fret, pick-up, strap buttons. This axe c/w a saddle pup and a volume knob in the sound hole. It sounds pretty good with the right setup. I needed this to happen for when I take my acoustic live. This axe represents.

5 years ago I spent a considerable amount of time comparing allot of all-solid-wood guitars in this range. After playing many many guitars, I brought the short list down to Martin, Taylor, Larrivee, and Gibson before ultimately deciding on a Martin D-28 as my number 1, which was the correct choice for me. Since then, I've added a few Taylors to the stable, and most recently finally added a fine J-45 to the collection. While I still maintain that the J-45 is not in the same league as a Martin D series guitar or a Taylor 600 and up, it is unquestionably a great instrument in its own right. Feels great to play, has a nice broad, full, and very identifiable sound, and is a dark beauty to behold. Now that I own one, it is easy to tell why it is called "the Workhorse" and I feel blessed to have the ability to play this one any time I want.

I've waited a very long time to buy my first Gibson and after owing Epiphones and Fenders I finally picked up my J-45. All I can say is I'm in love. The sound is just incredible. I love my Epiphones but the Gibson just blows it away. Don't let anyone tell you that the epi's sound as good as Gibson. They're great, but they're nothing like a Gibson!

I have been playing this gem for 18 months and I have to say it just keeps getting better and better. The finger board is smooth, with the rolled edge there is no sharp edge. The sound is clear bright, it has incredible sustain, it stay in tune, it is awesome.I read Gibsons history and if you do that inflation thing , these guitars are still the same descent price as way back when. Better than the bank for an investment. Workmanship is top notch.Thank you Gibson, and thank you Long & Mcquade. Do yourself a favour get a humidifier or two,you will help your guitar survive in Calgary climate.

I always wanted a left handed model I had a restrung Yamaha fg110 for the last 20 years. I think my j45 sunburst has the best almost cocoa color I have ever seen, drop dead gorgeous., the sound is perfect, the only thing I didn't like was , the pick up was loose and vibrated like crazy. once I tightened it all was beautiful music after that.

Went into the store to look at a used J200, but it was sold. Played a few Gibsons (Sheryl Crow, Robert Johnson, J35, Hummingbird, etc) and this J45 just seemed to fit perfectly for me. It is lightweight, sounds amazing, and the sunburst finish is beautiful. I run it to my PA through a LR Baggs Para DI and it sounds just as good plugged in. This will be an heirloom piece I will pass on to my kids.

I got this guitar from L&M and I Love it! The sound unplugged is fantastic and when it is plugged in it is unreal! It is a beauty to look at and even more fun to play. It is a guitar that I have wanted for so long and now I own one. I am a Gibson man through and through. I own two Les Paul's and this completes the trio. This is truly a workhorse as I use it three times a week gigging. The full sound and tone are amazing. I love the bottom end sound out of this baby as well. The highs are crisp and bright and cut through very well. No regrets at all with this purchase. Go out and get yourself one today!

Like the other reviewers have mentioned, there are some inconsistencies among these J45's. However, every here and there you find one that is simply outstanding, as I did. Nice full mids, excellent sustain, clear, dry highs and that classic J45 thump. But, just as impressive was the service. Lissa at the Stratford store went above and beyond and brought me in a lightly used instrument on approval. Turned out to be one of those really good ones. Massive tone! I love it. Cheers.

This is well built quality instrument. However there is a great variation in tone comparing several J45s to each other. I found some J45s that did not have that clear balanced tone while others did. Perhaps it was the string age? If you do not like one try another. Compared to other guitars in this price range the J 45 uses traditional sitka spruce and mahogany with a gloss finish while others use newer species of wood with a variety of finishes. This guitar is old school and has a long history of tradition behind it.

I picked this guitar up in a small music store in Listowel, Ontario. As soon as I put this guitar in my hands I didn't want to play anything else. It has great tone and sustain and is so easy to play. When I pick a little bluegrass my fingers just want to roll all over the frets. This gutar is fantastic.

10 on everything but value cuz I think 2275 for an acoustic is crazy. But this thing kept me coming back for more. I had it narrowed down to 4 guitars then finally it was between this and the Martin D-28. I didn't want to buy this cuz the salesman kept pushing it so out of spite I wanted something else. But after playing everything else, then coming back to this one, it was no contest. For my ear the sound and tone of this guitar is amazing. I absolutely love the sound. I have heard no better. Now I have never compared it to another j-45. I have heard they are inconsistent and that you need to play several of them to find a great one. Maybe I just got lucky but I can't imagine a nicer one than the one I found. What ever it is,,, I love this frickin thing.

depending on what you are using it for. This guitar has grat mid tones. Its not as bassy and bright as a matrin hd35 or taylor but the mid tone is good. This is a great guitar for a singer songwrighter. The pickup system is great and needs no tweaking at the counsel. It is a very well ballanced sounding guitar. Concerning playability I would say I have found better guitars. The action can be changed though. The one thing that i don't like about this guitar is the laquer finish on the neck. It creates a residue buildup from the oils on your hands. If your hands sweat alot when you play, I would stay away from this guitar.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
